So, a veteran pilot I know comes into the gym. We start discussing the missing plane. I assert that it's impossible for a jet to blow up without leaving debris. He said there is another way but it's far fetched. Goes like this...

The hijackers take over the cockpit and turn of the transponder off (and some other electrical stuff I didn't understand).
Then they reduce altitude to just above ground level so that radar can't pick them up.
Then they land at a predetermined remote area...like Siberia.

The govt of the host country would have to be in on the deal. The passengers can be taken hostage or shot.

Me: "What would be the motive?"

Him: "Beats me. But it is possible to do."

I know absolutely nothing about planes, but why in the world would they allow for the transponder to be turned off, I would think it would be tamper proof?

Might have been The Langoliers

or a youtube video that caused terrorist to hate the plane and shoot it down?

This. Why steal a plane and kill all the passengers? Whats to gain if you don't let anyone know your stole it?

IF someone hijacked the plane, it was done on a suicide type mission. A ransom type situation just ain't happening.

You call that a wild idea? A wild idea would be that there was no plane and this is all just an elaborate lead in to the next season of True Detective.

This is utterly hilarious.

This missing plane thing has turned this board into a bunch of conspiracy theorists. And over such a trivial matter compared to incidents with infinitely larger impact on our lives.

More time has been spent wondering, thinking, questioning, doubting this incident than what most of you spend on incidents with far more evidence against the official story.

Your idea of it being stolen was the similar to a plot on NCIS. They were stealing an old helicopter that was set to be decommissioned to sell on the black market.

They turned off the transmitter and landed it at a location to hand it over to the buyer.

An EMP seems to be the simplest explanation for all of their electrical systems suddenly going out.
