Theory 1: The plane exploded/detonated in flight due to either a bomb or rapid loss in pressure. Theory 2: The plane lost altitude and crashed into the ocean. Theory 3: The plane turned around and crashed over land. Theory 4: The aircraft suffered computer malfunctions and crashed Theory 5: The plane landed in a secret location and terrorists high jacked the aircraft and took control of the passengers. Theory 6: Aliens Theory 7: The cloaking theory Theory 8: Pilot suicide (this is Da Sheik's Theory) LINK
It's on the island. LOST

My dad is convinced they landed the plan and are filling it with explosives etc and will put the passengers back on and dare us to shoot it down before it's used on another terrorist attack.
Sounds like a good movie plot. Wouldn't be shocked if it happens IRL.

I'm holding on to hope that the military is all over this one and the confusion/misinformation is by somewhat by design. It just feels like this is only the beginning of the story.

Yea I feel like with the satellite technology available they have a much better idea of what happened then they're letting on.
I mean can't they just go back and find the plane on satellite images when they knew where it was and then follow it from there?
Or maybe they did that, saw aliens and don't want to freak out the public

yes good point. I'm not sure but could the commercial FCC's be powered down?
The 777 has three primary flight computers, the pilot can manually shut them all down putting the plane in a mode where control inputs are still received by the control surfaces, but there will be no operational envelope monitoring, AOA, etc. In a total electrical failure there are mechanical back ups, cables running to wing spoiler tabs and the tail. It is designed only to allow a pilot to keep the plane in level flight while the electrical problem is worked out, can't land with it! The person that was the project software manager for the 777 was from, and currently lives in Leesvile, LA also LSU grad.

Bc satellites don't view/record everywhere 24/7.

I still don't know why they don't check passenger cell phones for GPS tracking. Of 239 passengers and crew, I'd think at least one of them had a cell phone on, be it playing a game or watching videos or what have you.

Somebody put the plane in Airplane Mode.

At this point, it seems just as likely as anything else.

Was the bit about the communications being shut down separately posted already?
Can't open. What's it say? (Besides the statement you made) Any details?

This would explain the transponder being turned off inadvertently by a layman
is it that easy? just flip a switch to off?
Yes, during preflight the pilots check to make sure it works, and enter in a 4 digit code they are assigned. This four digit it code is never the same as another aircraft in the air. It also reports their altitude (i.e FL240 is 24000 ft) It can be put in standby and know one will see it, or it can be turned off completely.

Had read every single page of this thread until I fell asleep for 17 hours and I just woke up. I'm assuming I haven't missed anything even though there's like 40 new pages?
I've read every single page of this thread but I'm not sure how much longer I can keep up
Oh and apparently the plane crashed in the Indian Ocean and the US is going to find it
Also, anything the Malaysians say=bullshite

Do you think that my need to be changed? Isn't it important to know where the plane is and if the issue is too many planes showing for an ATC that maybe they could do something on their end to clean il the screen?
As you can tell I am clueless about this b/c I assumed after 9-11 it wouldn't be possible to turn it off.

I wouldn't rule out the plane being here.

From what I understand, there's usually at least 2 transponders on board, which cannot be run at the same time. Thus, they must be switchable.

For civilians it wouldn't a bad idea. Ive come across civilian planes not squawking before and it pisses me off bc I'm not trying to have a mid air collision. As for military, they will never make it where we can't turn it off.
