True Detective Season Two Discussion

Since the season one finale is Sunday I am curious what direction the board thinks the show should pursue.
here is a season 2 cast generator quiz:

Do you feel like nick pizzolatto should come back? Should the show runner be someone completely different?
Who would you like to see cast in the next season?
Bill Simmons wants to see Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. Another idea I heard was Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt. I think John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson would be interesting.
Since it is such a limited film schedule there is almost no one off limits for potential casting. I would like to see a completely different show runner and director do a new story. I would like to see some place we never see in film, something like Maine.

I don't know, but I'm going to be sad when the intro changes. I fricking love the imagery and song that goes with it.
ETA; Really, the whole soundtrack has been the tits. Hell, they were playing Gregg Allman's "Floating Bridge" in the bar during Episode 7. Little things like that have made this show really, really enjoyable.

why would you not want pizzolato to return as showrunner?

the idea is not to have them reprise old characters but to have new material and a completely new story

Kind of how the Halloween series was originally intended to run.

we dont know what direction HBO will take this series but True Detective may be a completely one off story with a different writer, director and lead actors with an original story for each season

Nic p has begun writing season 2, and there will be a female detective.

i understand, but by reprising duos from the past (in some of their better roles, imo) you are instantly trying to make the audience NOT see then as the characters they played together in films.
not an easy task and i bet it would greatly bother some people, myself included.

Yeah it his show, he developed it. But likely set in a very different location in another tax credit state (much like the Walking Dead spinoff will be).

i really like this idea, but it has to be HARD to have consistently good seasons of TV with this format. More power to them if they can pull it off, but i bet it catches up to them in season 3. Much like American Horror Story.

Has HBO ordered a second season?
They want to do season 2. I just have to give them scripts and see if they like them! It would be great if we could use some of the same actors, like a reparatory company. It would be different characters, different setting. That’s part of the fun of the anthology.

HBO has yet to officially confirm a second season of the show, though Nic Pizzolatto, the show's creator, told Rolling Stone that he's already started writing the next season. (Like the first season, the author has eschewed a writing team in favor of writing the entire season himself.) "I've got three characters I love right now, and they're all unique, and neither of them is Cohle or Hart," he says.

I don't think you're being serious, but I'll address it anyway. Given the success of the show, the producers would be doing themselves a disservice by using retreads when so many other actors should be clamoring to work with Pizzolato and Fukingawa(sp?. It just wouldn't be necessary to go that route.
As far as setting goes, I could see a return to a big city. Southern Louisiana lives and breathes and is a creature of its own in this series. Much like the desert and Albuquerque was used in Breaking Bad.
I can see them trying to replicate that with a major metropolitan area. I think they stay away from NY, Baltimore, Boston, or LA, maybe try a Seattle or Denver type city.

That is the thing with an anthology season. If one of them bombs, the next one can be tweaked.
In the age of Netflix, you are going to see this more. The long form anthology TV show already outpaces the movie as far as a story telling medium.

I think the idea is NickP owns the concept and rights and he is writing the second season
but somewhere down the line a new writer with new story ideas could get a season with NickP just being the show runner/executive producer
