Just comes with time. I have really good raw strength. What holds me back the most is my shoulder flexibility. I hate overhead stuff though. Snatches/OH Squats are a nightmare above 135. Just smokes me

As you can imagine at my size I am not an endurance guy though but been trying to work on it. I look athletic right now but if I got in great shape, around 200-205 and ran more, I would be a force in the open. Just hard to quit drinking and eating pizza as a college student.

Thanks for the add in the OP, my 72 looks pitiful compared to the rest of y'all's hahaha. My DU's hurt me. I could snatch 55lbs all day long. Hoping for some box jumps and deadlifts in the future open WODS. Still need the bands for my pull ups, I can do two strict pull-ups then I'm needing a band, still learning the kip

There is still hope. My dad did essentially a paleo/zone diet and worked out for a good hour every day after he retired from the Army. Went from being 5'9 225 to 5'9 170 in about 3-5 months. He is 58

If you don't have double unders 72 is great. All about battling through. You don't get DUs by not doing them Lot of people at my box were in the same boat too so you are not alone. Most people who post scores just happen to be people who do crossfit often

In the opposite, I only weigh 165 so the gymnastic movements are easy for me but the strength stuff kills me. The open weights are usually so light that I do well most of the time.

I am pretty damn good at gymnastic movements. When I drop about 10 pounds, I can do strict muscle ups on the rings, string bar muscle ups and all that. On just strength I am good at hand stand pushups

All that said, I can't do butterfly or kipping pullups

Thanks. I'm under 5 foot so normally when we did rope work I had to use one of the crossfit kids ropes, because all the ropes at the box were too long. finally got a custom rope made so hopefully I can practice more

That's awesome! THey are so fun to do once you get them. You'll be stringing multiple ones in a row in no time too I bet

This is huge. So many people (including me for the longest time) use the wrong size rope and it absolutely kills DUs. Upgrading to advanced ropes help out for a lot of people too. As long as you use the wrists though you are solid

I hate the false grip too. If I have to string MUs together right now, I do first false than do frontward facing hands. Typically I just do singles though. So much easier

Tell me about it!!! I'm 5'7" 206 & 38 years old with 2 young kids and a wife who doesn't get my obsession with exercise. I'm pumped to get in the gym 3 days a week.

Even with all that I think I do pretty well a C&J off 255# and a 195# snatch. I don't recall what my thruster PR is, but front squat is pretty decent at 305. Just dropped about 12# in the last month on a fairly strict paleo diet.

Gonna try to redo 14.1 tomorrow, shooting for 275

Why? Once you get the hang of it it basically just turns muscle-ups into a deep dip.

If you can get comfortable with the flase grip muscle-ups are a joke.

We're pretty much the exact opposite. I'm 6'0 180 with all-time flexibility and technique, but my raw strength is a joke. I've tried everything in the world outside of roids to increase it significantly, but at 26 I'm realizing this shite just aint happenin.

I have respectable numbers in snatch and jerk, but only because I have perfect form and decent explosion. When it comes to raw power, however, I'm significantly lacking and it sucks. You can only push through a workout so much when you can't finish the lift!

I do have game good stamina, though, yea you heard it ladies

I don't lift heavy unless it is programmed into our WODs and didn't work out between football in HS and Crossfit 3 years later. I just got lucky since I strict press 215-225 and front squat 335. Makes life a heck of a lot easier. If I ever wanted to be elite strength though, I need to fix my mobility (trying). Be happy you are 6' 180 because I fight weight gain unless I eat super healthy. Also strength means extra pounds and it isn't fun doing box jumps/pull ups/MUs at 200+

I go to a gym while at School. They have the equipment, great coaches/trainers and a group of friends to work out with

When I go home for holidays/summer I go to my parents gym. They have a good bit of Olympic lifting equipment and such. Also Crossfit is expensive at home.

I will say the nice thing about a gym is when you meet friends and such, they hold you accountable and you enjoy going in to socialize. Hard to motivate yourself to go alone and put yourself through those workouts if it is just exercise when it is by yourself.

GenesChin,

You should take this as flattery if they are in fact real, but I will tell you (and I think I've said it before so atleast you're consistent with your stories) that your numbers are insanely difficult to believe . If they are in fact true, you should a year really busting it and watching your diet and see how you could place because you have a legit shot.

I get stares by most people because I can strict press about 170 (it's my all-time goal in life to strict press my BW, I'm hoping to by the end of this year). I can't even imagine strict pressing 2 plates on each side. You're a helluva lot stronger than anyone I know if you're being serious !

We really are exact opposites. Most of my family is like 150. I swear I have the genetics of a Kenyan marathon runner. My diet to get to 180 is something like 12 eggs a day (no joke), 4 glasses of milk, 2 shakes, and chicken or steak for lunch and dinner. I have to eat myself sick to gain a pound or two on month it seems. It definitely helps with the box jumps though, white boy got hops!

As I mentioned, I abandoned set Crossfit workouts in a sponsored gym about a year ago in favor of my own programing. I still scan the boards once a week, and if I see a workout I like I'll do it at the gym I go to. Outside of a few obscure things like the atlas stones or rope climbs, you can adapt most everything if they have a couple of Olympic plates and a platform at your gym.

As someone said, though, Crossfit gyms are an awesome place to meet people. You have to accept that half of them will be the cult paleo-weirdo tools, but a good bit of them are just former athletes who like competing and staying active.
