No, next season. And I don't know why they didn't make the change for this season knowing the huge decline in offense in the College game. I looked up testing done with it...
This has to do with drag effect which is less with the flat seam they will switch to in 2015
"The test was conducted with an average ball exit speed from a machine at 95 mph with a spin rate of 1,400 RPM and a launch angle of 25 degrees. These parameters were set because they replicate the settings of a typical home run or a hit that could become a home run.
The average distance the raised seam ball traveled was 367 feet while the average distance the flat seam ball traveled was 387 feet — 20 feet further."
The approved flat seam balls as I understand it will not have a higher COR, it wont be the .578 COR flat seam used in Pro ball, but I can't find any info other than the only approved change is going to a flat seam. In other words I haven't found any info on what COR, so I have to assume it is still .555

I'd rather have a hitting problem than a pitching problem. State is currently in this position. LSU's gonna be fine.

Just one game of 56. LSU was not going 56-0. We can agree on that.
ULL is a top 10 team. There is no telling how the game would have come out if we had Nola pitching in a Regional game vs. the Cajuns.
All that matters is winning 2 out of 3 games (average) against SEC competition and we will be in the hunt for a Regional etc.
The Boston Red Sox lost games last year at home. When the pressure is on and Omaha is on the line, the Tigers will come through like they usually do.
I guarantee you this. It will snow a foot in Baton Rouge before ULL wins a National Championship in baseball. Let them have their fun tonight. Their program hasn't won 6 NC's.

The test was done at Washington State, assuming its the Spokane campus. So its not an arid climate which would bolster the numbers; in fact their average rainfall and humidity is similar to ours.
It seems like a no brainer to have made the flat seam change when they changed the bats. I don't know why they could not have foreseen what has happened.
And Pitchers going to play pro ball have always had to make the adjustment to the flat seam pro ball.
It may be why the change though approved will take 'til 2015 to come into effect to give pitchers that time to adjust, just a guess on my part though.
And if anyone wonders why they don't just go to the pro ball? They only reason I can find is cost; $100 per dozen.

Don't loose to Tulane or USL on my watch. It's not acceptable!
Wow. We get through 5 innings, the game is called and some people lose their minds.
Did you think we were going to win every baseball game this season or something?

Shut the frick up, you entitled whiny pussy. It's baseball. We lost a game that was called in the 5th inning to a nationally ranked team.

It's not a surprise that you can't even spell "lose" correctly. Can't wait until your racist arse is booted from the site.

Flat seemed balls will have a two-fold effect on hitting. It will allow the ball to travel further, and it will also make the ball easier to hit. Less drag means less break on a breaking ball. So, batters will see less variation in a curve and a fastball. I am assuming since the breaking ball pitcher will have less of an effect, the pitchers who throw harder will be more utilized. This just leads to even faster pitching (three-fold maybe). Just my theory on this...
The NCAA messed with a good thing when they switched the bats, and now the change in ball is merely an attempt to somewhat go back without saying they screwed up. They eventually need to just bring back the better bats. Both home runs and hard breaking curve balls are part of the game. They have made it an either/or game.

One 5 1/6 inning game and you say we have a hitting problem
I guess you missed the 28 runs we scores last weekend

So javi needs to go because of a 5 inning span where we scored 1 run? Nice

If you can't see a problem then you are blind. We got our arse handed to us in Omaha last year!

They ran a bunch of tests and studies before deciding to adopt the ball.
