Just take your current income and add $25,000 and that is what you should make in order to raise a child and not change anything you do now. The added cost will go up as they get older, but in theory so should your income.
I feel like if you can comfortably care for yourself now, you could make it work just fine with a kid. Things will change, and you will not spend as much on things like going out, eating out, random spontaneous purchases for yourself (hopefully), and that money will go to providing for your child.
Unless you plan on treating your child like an American Girl Doll with their clothing, or making sure they have every toy that hits the market, you should be ok assuming the above variables.

I don't see how a single income less than 60k can raise kids without needing govt assistance. And that's a "meh" upbringing, but doable.

Wife and I make 150 to 165ish together depending on bonuses. We are expecting our first kid and I'm freaked out about money. I know we'll be fine and I'm just a tightwad, but I don't see how some families can do as much as they do (vacations, weddings, college, etc)
We do Have student loans for the wife to pay off right now, so that's another reason our income seems smaller than it is.

what is a good salary to raise 2 kids, have a nice house, and do comfortable things. 50,000
Not even close. You still have to ridiculously save on that salary. You need at least twice that to live comfortably with a family, or at least my definition of comfort.

Look into a term called the hedonic treadmill. Experts have deduced that a person stops gaining happiness from money after about $75k per year. Obviously, this fluctuates with children and cost of living but it's not really as high as I'd thought it be.

Bring home at least 60k a year in order to be comfortable.

Kids are cheap until they hit about 5yrs old. Start now, worry about it later.

All you can make, is never enough. $50k might work, and I guess for me it did at one time. Go ahead and have kids, you'll figure it out. My son is about to figure it out and they may make $50k...may. Really cant put a number on it.

One of 3 kids. Ate out every night and had a relaxing environment with steak and shoes and private school tuition flowing on 150k a year. College was a bit tight, but for 3 kids, 150k is comfortable. Any less than that and it becomes uncomfortable
