Your whole post is incorrect

I wouldn't be surprised if some municipalities deputize some of their firefighters so they have some authority during emergencies like hurricanes or earthquakes.

I really have no idea though.

First of all, he isn't a local cop he is a California Highway Patrol officer (CHiP). The argument that led to the (admittedly) ridiculous arrest was over the Fire Engineer parking his truck in the center lane of the highway across the center divider from the accident. It was causing massive pileups and the Trooper told him to move the truck. The Engineer said "nope" since the fire department policy dictates that they block lanes in both directions.

A dick measuring contest ensued and the dummy CHP guy hooks up the Engineer. He puts him in the car and 30 minutes later a Supervisor gets him out and uncuffs/unarrests him. The agencies involved are currently "reviewing" the situation.

But don't let the facts get in the way of a good cop bashing. Carry on.

I practically knew the way it unfolded as I was reading the story.
Reading comprehension is one of my many strong points.

Your facts don't sway me away from bashing this particular officer.

The arresting officer deserves the bashing in this case.

My God what a moron. He needs to find a new profession, other than law enforcement and public safety.

Rule #1 in the Police Academy. Stay the frick out of Fire and EMS' way. They know what they are doing and you do not.

You could have just said the cop was a dumbass on a power trip and saved a lot of time. He needs to be fired and perhaps prosecuted for hindering first responders at the scene of an accident.

From the article.

quote:

As Gawker points out, “a police officer was fined $18,000 after he arrested a firefighter who also refused to move his firetruck during a highway rescue” back in 2008.

There is no way around this one, cop is a dumbass. Why in the world are you worried about traffic, when you could still have victims in need of assistance?

Secondly, the firefighter was following policy and said he would have to check with his captain before moving the truck. The cop is fully aware of how policy and chain of command works. Cop acted unprofessionally and needs to be punished for his stupidity.

The big story should be about all the other fire fighters beating the cops arse until his mother wouldn't recognize him.
