The revolutionary war was "treason" as well.
Treason is a word that winners impose on losers who pick the wrong side.
Otherwise we call them heroes.
What about all those who defected to the American side in conflicts? Treasonous scoundrels, right?
What some call terrorists, others call freedom fighters.

May be semantics, but the states were colonies in rebellion at the time. Arnold was a turncoat more than he committed actual treason.
George Washington et al were actually treasonous. They just avoided prosecution by winning.
