XM/Sirius is getting tougher on the discounts

I know this is a regular subject on the OT so here is an update as of today.
I read elsewhere that they have tightened up this year so I was prepared to actually cancel (just a to and from work car) when I called.
I have done this dance with XM for several years now so I am familiar with the "I am going to cancel" trick. It was different this time. As usual, the guy initially answering the phone tried for full price renewal. I did the "that's too much, I am going to cancel" and this is where they usually say "Let me send you over to Customer Care to see if they can help." Instead he flat said, "there aren't any discounts available so do you still want to cancel?" I said Yes and he connected me to Cancellation. The lady answering actually began processing my cancellation and then finally pulled out the "Oh, I see you have been a customer since 2004, let me take a look again. This is when they finally gave me the half off the one year rate.
There is no question that they were trying to wait me out. If I had not actually been prepared to cancel, I might have waivered. So consider this free intel.

I think they have 25 million subscribers. I don't think they are as desperate as in previous years.

I have had free XM/sirius for over a year. When I bought my vehicle I guess the last owner had it activated. But I am hooked now so if they ever do catch it I am going to pay for it.

I tried the cancellation threat with Cox, and they didn't bite. Didn't even offer a single thing. Cancelled within 10 minutes

Went through the same process with XM a couple months ago. They didn't offer the half off deal so I cancelled. Got the 5 months for $20 deal in the mail last week.
Also, just left Dish because they 'only' do 2 yr contracts. With Xfinity + internet now with no contract; on the waiting list for a X1 HD DVR box. The Xfinity internet is much better.

Glad I don't have to play these games, I got a lifetime a few years back at a reduced rate.

No kidding, bought the wife a car about 2 yrs ago. Got the free six months but they NEVER turned it off. Still have it today and haven't payed a dime.
We every time we get the "Come back to us" mailers every week.

Putting them in most new cars and giving a 6 month free trial was brilliant. I never thought I would be interested in having sirius until I got a new car. I now gladly fork over 18 bucks a month for it.

I just get the lifetime subscription and never have to deal with this. I got both streaming and in my car for about 400 bucks.

I purchased the Onyx for Sirius XM at Best Buy for my 2001 Lexus. It is one the best things I have ever purchased. I was tired of listening to shite stations here.
Initially, they wanted to charge me this outrageous fee of like $235. That was $25 a month for EVERY channel. I did not need all of those boring talk shows. I just wanted music. I told them to put me on the basic "mostly music" plan and now I pay $10 a month. I use it and love it, so I think it is a great investment.
