Im a sucker for pouring myself into this team too early and hating myself for it... Still, I am very hopeful.

But this doesnt account for teams winning their conference tournament that shouldnt? Does it? Guaranteed a few of those will happen and would push us out

I hate comments like this. People post we have to beat all the teams we are supposed to beat and we also need another marquee win (UK and/or Florida). So basically LSU can't lose another game?
Well of course if you take it literally, but in reality if we lose a game we're not supposed to we definitely fall off the bubble (in the wrong direction) Sure we could get back on it but it will take a Herculean effort to beat UK and/or UF on the road. Additionally I'm of the opinion that us winning all of the other games will be a significant challenge to this young team especially all the ones on the road.

I'm sticking with NIT and a couple of home games. But there's no doubt the team is starting to play better.

More excited about this because I have a feeling we about to demolish the next 5 opponents we play. The team is starting to play together and jerel in the flow of the offense has been a thing of beauty. That big lineup will be dangerous because they all call dribble and hickey is a one man press breaking machine.

If we win 3 of the next 4 games we will still be on the bubble (maybe even better). The one loss would likely be against a team we should beat.

Being in the 7th ranked conference, RPI-wise does NOT help...SEC is behind the Atlantic 10 and just a hair ahead of American Athletic, West Coast, and Mountain West. The SEC is basically a mid-major in basketball

As much as people may say things like this, I think perception is key in sports. If people are considering us "in" at this point that helps perception. When people watch us on ESPN2 on Thursday they will talk about us as currently "in the field" according to ... which I think helps promote LSU basketball to recruits as well as to those we follow the sport. I would say it has more meaning than "absolutely nothing".

The last 4 in list will change 50 more times between now and selection Sunday

But rankings and things like that are not a random set. All data uses two types of information. Past information as well as present.

Bracketology guys will use past positioning and then re-evaluate using the present info. Like I said, being in now is a positive step, even if we don't stay "in" or move forward.

You don't have to be so black/white on this. It's positive that we are "in" but it doesn't mean we dont have work to do.

Exactly. Just getting in the discussion is half the battle. We've been firmly "in the discussion" just about all year.

lsumatt... Aren't you the guy who claimed to be a better basketball player than Stringer? Clearly this is a guy whose opinion you should respect.

Matt, you're a good poster usually and I have no idea who JR is, but I do remember you claiming to be better than Andre Stringer a couple years ago

Must be confusing me with someone else. There is no way I would have ever claimed that. I don't play basketball and have never claimed to be better than any player at any level.

lsumatt,

I'm pretty sure it was you. I don't have the time or inclination to go digging for it, but someone, either you or someone with a very similar screen name jumped on the bash Stringer bandwagon at some point last season and claimed to be a better player than Stringer, which is clearly ridiculous becuse Stringer is so awesome!

And I'm guilty as charged. I love Stringer so saying that he is a better center than Shaq sounds like something I might have said. And no love for my postings Ellishoe? I know we've discussed stuff on the same bball threads. I think I'm a fair contributor to most things LSU bball on this board and have my occasional frustrated posts about Miles coaching antics, but my posts are with love for LSU (BBall slightly more than football).

LSU will just lose their first game, so it really won't matter if they are in or what seed they get.
