Not true.
The only time I feel genuinely happy is when I'm working my own business, growing it, and making money. It satisfies me.
I don't care about the arts, I don't care to really travel. I don't care to interact with people of different culture and views than me, unless necessary for a business deal, and in that setting I'm good at interacting with them because I'm a master at bullshitting

In Eastern Europe the women dress in heels and miniskirts everywhere they go and exist solely for the pleasure of the men and are treated as such.
if that's the sophisticated European model we're going for than I'm all for it.

Only those who describe themselves as "free-thinkers", "intellectuals", and "progressives".

Meh, it's a thinly disguised troll. I love the over-generalizations about pretty diverse continent with varied societies and cultures. Not to mention various levels of success and "sophistication".

In the 1990s, Baywatch was the most popular show in Europe.

Traveling the world has made me appreciate many things about America. But it's also confirmed how much I dislike our homogenized, fast-food lifestyle. I dislike that every interstate exit looks the same, with tacky strip malls and the same 7 F&B establishments. I dislike urban sprawl and commuter cities with metro areas ~16,000 square miles, like Phoenix. I prefer compact, walkable city centers, historic architecture, etc. I like living in apartments. I like any number of things about the European lifestyle. European cities are the most beautiful in the world, imo. And it's not even close.
As for the arts comments, I won't expect that issue to get much play on a football board. But as someone who's studied a bunch of art history, both music and visual, that's a pretty neat thing (not saying that the average European enjoys that stuff.)
Of course, there are a lot of things I dislike about Europe (generalizing here, basically meaning Continental/Northern Europe). As much as I criticize rabid right wingers in the USA, when I'm in Europe I find myself arguing almost exclusively with Leftists, either earnest or smug, who want to destroy the foundations of Western Civilization, a civilization which took Europe from backwater to the center of humankind for centuries. For many Europeans, it's fine to say you despise America and Americans but ghastly to criticize Somalia or Hamas.
Anyhow, I don't think it's necessary to rank USA and Europe in terms of better and worse. They're different. As for the 'sophisticated' thing, I would say that the average urban dweller in Europe is more practiced and knowledgeable in several realms that people associate with 'sophistication': cuisine, fashion, the visual and performing arts, etc. But America's so rich, diverse, and full of entrepreneurial and inquisitive people, that you can find whatever fancies you. And if you want to study interpretive underwater dancing, the USA will have a number of elite and specialized MFA programs for you to choose from, even if your next door neighbor has never heard of interpretive underwater dancing. That's why this country's cool.

no apathy is great. If you're happy being miserable, Europe is fantastic
did I also mention that there is no free speech in France and Germany?
None? Where did you get that information? I am sure that the French and Germans would be interested.
Of course there is free speech in Germany and Europe....there are some restrictions that we would never stand for in the US but we do not have totally free speech in the US either.
You are correct however that speech is limited more so in Germany at least. For example it is illegal to flip someone a bird....because it is rude. That is so fricking stupid because Germans make all sorts of hand gestures in place of flipping someone off. Americans living in Germany get charged with this 'crime" pretty regularly....I know a full bird Marine Colonel whose wife was deported for being arrested for flipping folks off on several occasions. My wife was given a warning ticket for doing the same thing. Not exactly a hard thing to live without BUT it is childish, in my opinion.
Another law that the Germans are dead serious about is wearing anything or writing anything or saying anything that can in any way glorify the Third Reich and National Socialism. Like most laws of this nature it is selectively applied....in parts of Berlin there are LOTS of skinheads who sport Swastika tattoos and for the most part they are ignored UNTIL they get arrested for something else and then they are usually charged for it....sometimes it sticks and sometimes it does not, for various reasons.
Europeans are far from miserable though. Most of Europe is a paradise for the middle class with fantastic health care systems, very liberal labor laws and a very high standard of living. All of this is made possible by US Taxpayers....I know ya'll like to dismiss this fact out of hand because is counter to the narrative that entitlement programs and high taxes are the reason that the US economy is not in the best of health but everything that makes Europe a middle class paradise is subsidized by you....without that subsidy there would not be the health care systems, the progressive labor laws ARE the standard of living. This truth is what makes Europeans so smug. Like children through out time Europeans love Mama and Daddy's house, car, food, cable TV and internet connection but feel that Mama and daddy are too stupid to understand why they (the kids) are so much smarter than the parents.
Again I know ya'll won't buy this because it is much more comforting to blame the problems in the US on Americans, especially the poor and the lower middle class. It is difficult to understand the benefits that Europe and the entire world enjoy at the expense of American tax payers and the nuance of this does not fit well on a bumper sticker. Not like a diatribe against food stamps anyway....

There is something else that I never knew about Europe but had discovered....Europeans are not more sophisticated than Americans!!! I always assumed with all of the culture and museums and what not that they were but they aren't....there are just as many red necks and white trash in Europe as there is in Mississippi!!!
Construction workers in Europe are just like American construction workers...they are pretty simple people. They don't spend their off hours gazing at paintings and attending the symphony. They watch TV and drink beer...lots of beer. They also are prone to getting into all sorts of bizarre (by US standards) sex acts, especially in groups. This is not sophisticated...it may look that way in porn videos but when it is normal, middle aged folks with a penchant for TV and beer you can imagine the body types that make up the majority of the participants.
Europeans watch soccer like we watch football, they go to flea markets where they buy one another's trash as well as junk made in China, their kids are typically rude and surly just like American kids, and they are pretty much just like us in every other way imaginable. They are more multi-lingual than we are, but this is out of necessity more than it is a dedication to intellectualism. There really is not a lot of difference, in my experience.
I tell people all the time that if it weren't for the language difference you wouldn't know you weren't in Texas when you are in Southern Gemany, about as commonly Europe as Europe gets. The people are very conservative, they have a tendency to be somewhat racist, they are completely auto-dependent, the love sports, hunting, fishing, drinking, and as I said, doing all sorts of strange sexual shite like swimming in public pools naked....it is really interesting LOL....

Your average American doesn't believe in evolution or climate change, and probably hasn't read one classic work of literature their entire lives. I would say that's a pretty good index of sophistication.

Um...classic literary works are a standard part of the K-12 curriculum. I'd venture to guess the average American has read several works from the literary canon.
