He's not a thug, but what he did was inappropriate. It didn't play well, and I had a negative reaction to it.
Looks like a few folks here have resolved to "let's blame whitey and call it a day." That seems bizarre to me. Richard Sherman shouldn't be let off the hook just because he's black and can play the race card.
Was this a big deal? Nope. But whatever it was, lets hold Richard Sherman accountable for his own actions. I'm sure there were a lot of people of all races, even some black people, who were thoroughly unimpressed by what he did.
Is he a thug? No. Is he full of himself? Seems like it.

When people were making death threats against Stacey Dash and Mitt Romney in 2012, there were some serious racial overtones attached to that.
I guess that was somehow different?

It does.
It really does. The way thug was used, it was like they wanted to use the N word but couldn't bring themselves to do it.
Its not always used this way, as well thug has been used for a long time in many different ways but in twitter, after his rant, it was used as a substitute.
Really sad!

If so, it just goes to show the futility of the language police.
People will still find a way to communicate what they mean.

Of course not.
Thug is a characterization of behavior. The n word is a characterization of someone's skin color.

Sure buddy. That's not racist at all.

Of course it wasn't originally. But in the last few years it's been used pretty liberally when referring to black athletes who behave badly.

how about pompous jerk? I mean, a man who happens to be black can be criticized, right?
Or, maybe that's a big part of the problem here. They can't be, or else it's automatically racist.

But it's describing the behavior, not the race. Who is more likely to be described as a "thug:" Bill Cosby or Marshall Henderson?
It's describing the behavior of a subculture.

you are evolving correctly, there is yet no name for the societal sensitivity nerve but politards are hard at work on a name, it will allow you to understand the plight of the black man and the gheybe.

No.
I don't care what RS thinks.
Thugs come in all colors and I will continue to use the term. If you don't like it that's your problem.

My dad used to call me and my friends thugs all the time when we were little kids, along with hoodlums. I guess what he was really trying to tell us was we were n***ers.
The race card is getting so ridiculous these days. It's all about perception, if you want it to be racist it will become racist.
