For example, why can't I say the N word right now in this post instead of having to post "the N word"?

No.
I just assume I'll be called a racist by someone if I use it and I don't want someone to have the opportunity to call me a racist when I'm not.

So you're just a pussy.

No, he's a TPOS.

Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug, Thug.

The real litmus test is when you say thug, do you look over your shoulder to make sure thugs aren't around?
Or do you use thugs spelled differently? And is it OK, if you have a thug friend, to use the word thug?
The more you know and knowing is half the battle.

No its not racist. The first thing I thought when he slapped that dude on the arse was " what a bitch move". Also I remember hearing thug for mafia and Irish street gangsters from movies. It was never racist then so why make it racist now? It means hoodlum or gangster. Bieber he ain't a thug he's a punk. Punk is like the little brother of thug. Ain't got the street cred of thug but he trying.

Well, if he truly believes that, then he CHOSE to participate in a commercial in which he was called a "n####r".
48 seconds in
Also, as Antonio Moss talked about earlier, the context of "thug" alluded to in the commercial was clearly about behavior.

Sammyptiger, you are trying way too hard, dude.
The key word in this thread should be "gotcha" instead of thug. That's what the phony, agenda-driven concept of political correctness is all about. Just look at this situation. Some self-possessed jerk makes a fool out of himself on national tv. But because he happens to be black, his behavior is basically swept under the rug and the focus is placed squarely on mean old racist, white America for calling him a thug, because as we all know, mean old racist America was really calling him a ****.
Once again, da black man is fully exonerated of any and all responsibility for his own behavior. As Don King used to say, only in America, my peeps.

I think his point was that people are quicker to call blacks thugs than whites. People don't usually refer to Bieber as a thug, and he's a WAY bigger POS than Sherman.

For good reason.
POS =/= Thug
what exactly do you think a "thug" is if Justin Bieber fits your definition?

Okay, but so what? White people get called white trash, redneck, etc, and nobody ever says a word about that.
we all read this board. Anybody want to claim that nobody here ever says white trash or redneck without even a hint of racial animosity attached to those words? Funny, but I've never seen a thread about that.
Sherman acted like a fool. Period. The whole thing would've blown over by now if Sherman himself had been a man about this and apologized. Instead, he decides to whimper like a little baby and deflect the criticism by playing both the victim card and the race card.

What immediately comes to mind is someone who has behavior deficiencies, lacking common decency, tactless, criminal, etc.
Sherman was an arse, but the guy has never been in trouble with the law, and he has a master's degree from Stanford. I just don't think of him as a thug based solely on that outburst.

Pretty broad spectrum of behavior. I think a thug should be limited to a violent criminal, and that is broadened from the original definition of an assassin, Bieber is much closer to a pussy than a thug.

I've never suggested Sherman was a thug.

Does I have to splain' errrything?:
Thug implies the threat of violence.
Punk is the attitude without the violence.
Orenthal is a thug. Big Tony Soprano is a thug.
Bieber is a punk. Little Anthony Soprano is a punk.
And of course there are subsets of punk-the douchebag, the fratstar, the p.o.s. etc.
And subsets of Thugs too-The Orenthal, The Meth head, The Vinny etc.
Now that the self-styled Language Nannies of The Cultural Left amongst us are trying to appropriate the word thug, I will use it more frequently.

You're right. That is a good analogy.

No argument here. He hasn't handled the situation well at all.

Yes that's probably a better definition. Looking back at my post, it is a very broad definition.
