That's what I was thinking. For those interested, that was the late Pat Leblanc's house on Verot School Rd. in the Lafayette/Youngsville area. His widow sold it about a year ago to a local doctor IIRC.
So do local doctors make that much?

a doctor didn't buy it; an oil man bought it

No clue, just was somewhat connected to the previous owner and remember the house being sold. On a somewhat related note, my wife's sister just stopped by and said the gas station down the street is now on fire.

If they leave the columns and don't rebuild it could be cool like The Windsor Ruins outside of Port Gibson, MS.

Or the old Cottage Plantation in Baton Rouge, south of LSU:

I know, I just felt bad airing the dudes dirty laundry like that. I mean, his mansion just burned down.
I love that the yacht was named "The Crime Scene", though.

Yup they blocked off Verot, from Fortune Rd to he round about. The owner of the house is from Slidell and owns a oil field company. Ralph Wadleigh

Now the "dirty laundry" article makes sense. Jim Letten was the US Attorney for Nola, not Lafayette.
His yacht was called "The Crime Scene."
Was the house at burned an actual plantation home or newer?

Not sure, but I doubt it was a "Real" plantation.

They should have used the same material as the columns on the rest of the house.
