Mawae texted out to media members the following:

"Les and Cam showed the desire to hire a coach that has a proven record of putting linemen in the NFL."
I don't if grimes falls in that category.

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Former LSU star Kevin Mawae says he had a lengthy interview for the offensive line position Sunday, and was informed Tuesday he was no longer in running.
"I did have a rather lengthy interview on Sunday morning, and in no way did I think it was just a 'courtesy interview', said Mawae. "I was informed yesterday that I would not be the guy, and just this morning read that the position has been offered to Jeff Grimes of VaTech."
The Roanoke Times reported Wednesday that the Virginia Tech offensive line coach accepted a job on the LSU coaching staff.
Mawae went on to say, "I do not believe my knowledge of X's and O's was a deterrent, rather Les and Cam's desire to have a coach who has proven to place players in the NFL. I am thankful for the opportunity to have interviewed for the job at LSU, my alma mater and I hope that Coach Grimes, or whomever they officially announce as the next O-Line coach, is everything that LSU needs and what Les and his staff wants in both a coach and a recruiter. Again, I want to thank Coach Miles and Coach Cameron for their time and the consideration they gave me! I will always Love Purple and Live Gold, Forever LSU! GEAUX TIGERS!"

Thanks to KM for being classy and mature enough to put his alma mater ahead of any sore feelings.
He's one of LSU's greatest players recently and I hope he ends up at LSU coaching eventually. I do however think Les and Cam made the right choice at this time.

Kevin was an amazing play. But that doesn't mean you will be a great coach. I think lsu made the right move

Mawae is the type of guy that you wish you had 15 guys just like him on the team.

I can understand Miles and Cameron's point of view though. While he would have a lot of knowledge the LSU OL Coach is a premier assistant coaching job in the country.

This. Hopefully Mawae will get another chance at being the OL coach (I really respected him as a player, esp. in the NFL). Although, Mike Vrabel did quite well at OSU for being thrown in right away, but I understand Les and Cam wanting the more experienced guy.

I was pulling for Mawae. For him to think it wasn't X's and O's issue shows he deserved this job.
