Yes you can get the new Ink Preferred and get the bonus if you have another Ink product. I did that with the Ink Bold and Plus.
Sho Nuff - I use the CSR for travel and dining (3x), ink cash for office supplies (5x)
(mainly amazon gift cards), Freedom on the rotating categories (5x) and Freedom Unlimited (1.5x) for any spend that doesn't otherwise have a bonus. Just one annual fee for the CSR. Put gas on ink (2x) or buy gas gift cards at office supply store on ink (5x).
The only concern I would have today about moving form a Ink plus to cash is the risk that chase may switch the cash's bonuses to match the preferred. i.e., remove the 5x. There is nothing preventing them from doing that to the Plus also though (or just discontinuing it altogether).

What is your airline of choice?

Yeah, I worry about getting rid of the Ink+ since it's no longer offered and I really like the 5x and use it. I think they would get rid of that on the free version before the + but who knows..

What card do you have? You can't transfer points to just any airline. You can only transfer them directly to Amex travel partners.
Amex Travel Partners

I'm thinking about applying for the aadvantage card for the 60k miles bonus. The annual fee is waived for the first year. Can I cancel before the second one hits? is there some kind of contract?
Posted on 5/29/17 at 6:34 pm to bigbuckdj
Yes you can cancel before the 2nd one hits, it's what most people on here do to earn lots of points/miles quickly. Some cards you can get over and over quickly and some you have to wait a couple years, but you don't have to keep a card. You don't want to cancel the card too quickly, use it for the year since it's free. You may even get some cards to waive the AF again so you can have it for 2 years.

My wife and I just got back from South Africa - did business class there and back.
We had the same problem figuring out how to use points. (Had about 270K UR and 90K MR)
We ended up using a service that does all the legwork for finding the award flights, and you pay him $100 per person.
To me it was well worth it.

Hope this helps.

I more or less got out of the game.
USAA has a pilot card that is offering 2.5% cash back if you have a $1000 direct deposit (My main bank anyways)
I don't have time to travel anymore so the adv of having everything consolidated for 2.5% cash back is extremely attractive. Now with slots open for Chase + others, I can just open a card if I have a trip I need to go on so I'm gravy

Check out r/churning on Reddit. In the sidebar/Community Info there is an excel file that shows what the best recent offer was, and whether the current public offer is more or less lucrative.

Yeah southwest just increased the points on both those cards. Get them both and you would have plenty of points and companion pass for 1 1/2 years. Pretty sweet.

I just came here to ask a question about getting two Southwest cards for companion pass. I have 59k points right now towards the 110k for a companion pass with just the premier card. What card do I need to get to get that extra 60k in points and get the pass? Do I just reapply for the southwest premier and get two of them? Or the plus? Someone told me the small business card but it looks like I actually need to have a small business.
Edit: Read more into it and got the Plus card today. On my way to a companion pass! Now I just need to find a companion lol

I was just about to answer your question
But ya, with you at 59k and the Plus being cheaper ($69) and 60k after 2k spend, you'd have 59,000 plus 60,000 bonus plus 2,000 in spend = 121,000 points towards companion status = achieved.

I know I could look this up, but do you know if it is just one companion for the whole year? Or can I change a friend every time? Also, do I have it for 365 days after reaching the 110k or just Jan to Jan?

You can change your companion 3 times IIRC.
The Companion Pass will be good for the remainder of the year in which it is earned, plus the following calendar year.
This is why people apply for two cards in late 2016 for instance, earn the bonuses/companion pass in January 2017, so it would be good for 2017 and 2018.
For you, you'll earn the bonus by August at latest if you hurry, so you'll have 4/5 months this year and 12 next.
It sounds like you fly SW a lot, so I'd hold off applying for another SW card to bridge the gap to earn companion pass to 2019 if all factors remain constant.

How do they allow this?? That is incredible! I plan to spend my 2k right when I get my card. Putting rent on it.

You'll have to ask them. It is one of the best, if not best deals in this game.
They have shut down some workarounds people were using like transferring hotel points into Southwest points that were counting, so it isn't like they are totally unaware of how great it is.

I guess they are making more off of the credit cards than they are losing from giving free flights. I can see them really losing from people using companion pass all the time like work travelers who take their spouse or work partner every time, but most people just travel a few times a year. Makes more sense now that I think about it.

Believe me, more people get suckered into paying interest on the balance than profit like we do off these deals. I don't even mention these deals to my brother, who is too lazy to close a Delta credit card he puts less than $500 a year on yet pays the fee. Drives me insane.

I'm sure I'm paying stupid interest on my Southwest card. I'm working to fix that problem. I use my card as my debit card to get points. Pay it off every pay day. The past couple of paydays I've had like $400 bucks left over on the card. I'm screwing myself. I know it.
