How do they allow this??

Normally they don't have the mega signup offers at end of year like this. People get the companion pass for really only 15months instead of closer to 20-24 mo

The companion pass, while an incredible deal, isn't used to full advantage by people and few know/go get it.

To maximize the points + companion pass, you'd need to fly companion everytime you book a ticket with points. That means

-You need a designated/set companion
-Fly with kids? You burn points without companion benefit
-You need to cram all your trips into max 24 months
-Flying holiday season? Your points are gone with the quickness

My brother for example has a serious GF but she doesn't go on every trip with him to family etc so value isn't too much

My sister has 2 other kids, so flying on points is expensive even with companion pass

You can only get your companion on trips that you buy with points?

My CSR sign-up bonus hits my account on Monday. Just in time to plan a trip to Omaha for the CWS.

(fingers crossed)

Any purchased ticket (cash or points) can have your companion added. You can switch your companion 3 times per year (plus the original named companion). I did the now dead Marriott transfer deal for me and my wife in March and my family is currently wearing out the SW route map buy two, get two style. It's a sweet deal.

Question for the board. What has been your post 5/24 strategy? I met my last minimum spends a few weeks ago on a couple of Chase cards and am now over 5/24. I've now got a healthy balance of UR points and United Miles but no real goals in mind. Just looking to continue the game.

Any general suggestions? Should Amex MR be next on the list? Citi TYP? I do feel like I should wait on a 75k-100k Amex Plat offer rather than taking the current 60k offer, considering I don't have any immediate use for the points.

I wouldn't mind grabbing a hotel rewards card. I've got several out of town weddings in the next year and will need hotels for all of them. I've seen the SPG mentioned here some. Thoughts on this card?

I like the Chase Hyatt card. Last I heard it was exempt from 5/24, but someone else can confirm whether that is still the case.

The best SPG sign up bonus lately was about 35k.

Got to use it once

Figured it would be dead soon

Gotta go back to maximizing the legit stuff. Have a date with the grocery store gift card rack for $2,000 to complete Freedom quarter

I got to use it twice and I feel like I made out like a bandit I was ready to pound that thing but also thought it was too good to be true.

Anyone have experience with the visa grocery GCs? can you turn it into WM MOs?

What grocery store allows GC purchases with a CC? I know Rouses doesn't.

Although I know I can max mine out with GC purchases at Walgreens.

Anyone have a guess to what the Freedoms next 5x category is? It says "Summer Fun" on their calendar.

I know I've been to every Albertsons and Winn Dixie in BR and it's a no go. Rather annoying because I've been able to buy them at those places out of town.

ETA: I do my regular grocery shopping at the Winn Dixie at Lee/Burbank and I usually go by the GC station just to look and VGCs are always low or almost out. So I feel like someone has the game figured out better than I do on how to purchase on a CC.

Probably something like restaurants that I won't be able to MS.

You're overthinking it.

I buy the grocery store's GCs. Sure, that's not as big as a mischievous win over the CC company as manufacturing spend, but making sure you maximize the quarter is still a win. I'll use up those cards over the next two months buying food.

Third quarter is restaurants and movie theaters. Same theory applies if you eat a ton at certain restaurant that sells GCs to their establishment. Our eating out budget should get one Freedom down. I'll have to think about how to maximize the other.

Bar tabs should cover a little bit as well.

If you have a chance to buy a meal for a bunch of folks via company reimbursement or them giving you cash, do that to meet the bonus.

I buy Amazon and gas GCs. I know I can easily spend them

Kroger let's me buy Visa GCs but I like my gas multiplier + haven't had an issue spending it yet

Ya, I need to stop being lazy with Amazon and load via office supply store purchases. It's just never been convenient lately.

Going to Secrets Akumal in Rivera Maya this January. Used 60,000 AAdvantage miles to cover flights and 148,000 Chase Rewards Points Cashed out to book the resort. Total out of pocket will be a little less than $700. I like it

Oh, well I don't shop at grocery stores that much. Do most of mine at Costco, but this quarter is easy because I just buy VGC's at Walgreen's and use them elsewhere.

This won't be hard for me because of....

This

I'll easily max that out between dining and bars. It's why I love the CSR so much. 3x's on dining all the time? It's like my drinking has a purpose now

Can't buy gcs with a CC at Albertsons? Are you sure?

Freedom 5x at grocery is easy to maximize with Albertsons and Whole foods (both sell $500 VGC)

Is the csr still a good value, I missed out on the 100k points last year. I currently only have an amazon card.
