Pete Carroll was mediocre. Steve Spurrier was mediocre. Nick Saban was mediocre. Who's next?

You just destroyed your own thread. PC is proof that 2 years is not enough time to judge an NFL coach. Or you could look at Belichick's first two years.

Well some coaches run after 2 years lol they gone

Maybe Rex Ryan? Though he may not qualify as mediocre as he's been to two afc championship games

Holtz didn't fare well either. Petey is doing pretty good on his 2nd go-around.

Pete Carroll is mediocre? He's a college great and he's successful in the pros

He was very average the first time with the Jets.

Better question: what good HS coach is going to parlay his talented recruits into a coordinator in a major conference and then maximize his opportunity by coaching his team into an overachieving season for the ages?

I think Rex would be an outstanding college coach.
Gary Kubiak possibly
Gary Kubiak possibly

I love how people are trashing the OP for mentioning Carroll. Yet at the time he was hired by USC he was an average NFL coach. Some success but nothing to write home about.
I think Jack Del Rio would do well in college. Personality and a good defensive mind.

This. 4 years and he was 33-31. He was basically Jim Haslett

Sean Payton (play calling of late )

Gary Kubiak would be an interesting hire for a college program

Saban went 9-7 with Jack shite at qb, then they got hit with a bunch of injuries and went 6-10. I think Saban could absolutely be very successful.

You're just as bad as those "trashing Carroll"
Del Rio has absolutely zero personality. He regurgitates coach speak on a weekly basis in a monotone manner and he's pretty damn average to below average at play calling on the defensive side of the ball. I lived in the northeast Florida region throughout his entire tenure and can only describe the guy as the definition of Meh. Once he lost his 2 mammoth tackles in jville his teams were pretty average to bad on defense.
He is the epitome of an nfl position coach.
I've said it multiple times, I think people only bring his name up because he still works out and looks like he can play. He gives off an impressive appearance bit there is absolutely no substance there.

I'd love to see the Ryan brothers coaching in College! INTENSITY

To answer original OP question I think Rex Ryan would kill it in college.

I agree with others about Rex Ryan. I can see him doing some things with a good OC.
I could also see Tony Sparano being a good college coach. Has a little personality and seems to understand personnel pretty well.
