He's been a damn strong bench option for Chicago and San Antonio since leaving here. It baffles me that he and Xavier Henry are having any success.

Why is Bellinelli baffling?
He was on some terrible teams here and still managed to score double digit points and shoot well from 3.
He's the definition of a good role player who is a perfect fit for a contender.
I don't get the hate for him

especially Henry.. I thought he'd be lucky to be a NBA-D league guy that gets minutes after leaving here

This is exactly the point. Good bench player but mediocre as a full time starter. He was never bad here. We just had too much expectations from him to appreciate what he brings to the table.
I've always felt that he was judged unfairly here. Take Jason Smith for example. Great bench player but once you put him into the starting line up, expectations rises and people become disappointed.

This is a good point Smith is a good back up 4/5, but a bottom tier starter at either position.. Belinelli the same at the 2/3...
But you are proving the point we need a good starting center

It's obvious that certain teams are elite developmental organizations if you look at what the thunder have been able to do with reggie jackson and jeremy lamb and especially what the spurs have done with patty mills, danny green, kawhi leonard, and so many role players.
They draft, develop, and fit players together very neatly. Factor in the great coaching and they're in a different league.

He was a frustrating player to watch with the way he would miss timely, wide arse open 3s. Although if he could hit those it would mean he was a better player and he might still be in Golden State instead of on his 5th team in 7 years.

I agree with this. Smiht is much more of a value player in his true role.

Marco Belinelli will be free agent for the first time in his NBA Career. The Italian guard would love to return to the Hornets but also to play for a contender. "This is my first time as free agent but I am not worried at all. I know that there are teams who are interested in me. The Hornets as well want to bring me back and I feel like a god with them.
I don't think I'll ever forget this gem from Belinelli.

Definitely, I could see him being really good off the bench for a team like the Spurs.
