9mm barrel differences and velocities

The Glock 34 barrel is almost 1 inch longer than the Glock 17.
Depending on what you read, that equates to about an additional 50 feet per second.
What does that really mean in real world self defense? What would that extra 50 f/s mean for a 135 or 124 +p round?
Could anyone justify paying $100 more for a competition gun for the extra 50 f/s?
If you don't mind keeping these items out of the conversation:
-better trigger
-longer sight radius
this is really a question about what extra velocity can do for a 124/135 +p round, and what does it REALLY mean?

Mr Hickok may have something to say about this:
Velocity comparisons.
But in my own opinion, I prefer a longer sight radius.

I like Ole Hickok45. And, point well taken.

Cliffs:
He tested basic white box Winchester 9MM with a chron and determined with Glocks with 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5 inch barrels that one gained 40+ fps from a 3.5 to 4.5 barrel. His 3.5 inch barrel produced 1056 to 1137 fps for the 4.5 barrel. Basically you aren't sacrificing anything with that diff in fps if you carry a shorter barreled firearm.

Cool, but what can +50 fps do for 124 or 135 +p in ballistics gell or barrier penetration?
I assume there is no data out there.
Funny how there are so many answers, but there are still so many questions.

Difference would be negligible. 1/4 -1/2 inch difference in ballistics gel

If you want higher velocities with a 9mm bullet you can find a 357sig. They're a good bit faster.

1. Keep in mind that a 4" Storm Lake bbl, or a 4" KKM bbl will not produce the same velocity as a factory Glock 4" bbl.
2. Today's good SD ammo will penetrate and expand reliably from the G26 or G27 -- and will clearly penetrate and expand adequately in longer Glock bbls. -- based on the FBI test proocols. If they wouldn't, the FBI would not (and thus no LEO agency would) issue them.

Thanks yall.
The reason i asked is:
Nobody can miss with a glock 19 at 15 yards or any 9mm forthat matter.
So the extra sight radius doesnt really wow me for what i do.
I was wondering about the extra velocity, which seems to be negligent.

I beg to differ. I can miss with my 6.5" blackhawk at pretty much any range, and I shoot that thing far better than any glock I've ever touched.

My 357SIG shoots 125 grain (9mm) defense rounds at 1350 ft/sec.

I still don't understand why everything else between .380 and 10mm isn't obsolete.

I think there is something missing in "the numbers" when using f/s.
Kinda like saying there's not much difference in water flow between a 3" and 4" drain pipe (only 25% difference in size). Yet in reality, the flow is DOUBLED!
I think we can agree that a 357 mag's performance dwarfs a 9mm, yet not much difference in velocity.
My Hi-Point 9mm carbine will punch a hole right through a 6" diameter pine tree at 70 yards, whereas a 9mm pistol fails to do so at 7 yards.
As is the case with pi in the diameter of a pipe (squared), perhaps something is something similar with f/s and flying bullets that we're not factoring? Need someone smarter than me for this.
