A Breakdown of Who Texas Wants to Hire and Who They Have a Chance With

So we all know that Tejas has a wishlist of coaches they want and coaches that they have a chance with. Here is the list, according to ESPN:
David Shaw (Stanford)
James Franklin (Vanderbilt)
Charlie Strong (Louisville)
Mark Dantonio (Michigan State)
Dabo Swinney (Clemson)
Jim Mora Jr. (UCLA)
Gus Malzahn (Auburn)
Jimbo Fisher (FSU)
Nick Saban (Alabama - just for shits and gigs)
Lets break them down to see who they actually have a chance with and who they might end up hiring.
There are a couple of coaches on this list that they absolutely won't get. Gus Malzahn, Jimbo Fisher, and David Shaw. Obviously they won't get Malzahn and Fisher because, honestly, do any of you believe FSU or Auburn is going to let those guys go? Fisher is now the head coach of the premier school in Florida and Malzahn just made the biggest turnaround in college football history so I'm sure he's going to get a pretty significant extension and raise anyway. Besides he is coaching in the SEC and doesn't want to leave the conference. The deal with David Shaw is he just generally enjoys Palo Alto and doesn't want to leave, especially for Austin where he will be extremely critisized so he is a no go.
The next group they could get by just making the phone call but won't make the call, Charlie Strong and James Franklin. Both of these guys would go the second they found out Texas was on the phone after saying hello but Texas won't actually consider these two because they coach at smaller schools and both haven't really done much at their respective school. Sure Franklin has made Vandy a bowl eligible school a couple time and has pulled off a couple decent wins but he has never really beaten anyone or stolen any big time recruits. While he is a repectable coach they aren't really that interested. Strong on the other hand has had some really impressive wins but some pretty bad losses also. Personally I just don't see Texas pulling the trigger on him.
Now for the coaches they might actually get, Mark Dantonio, Dabo Swinney, and Jim Mora, Jr. Dantonio just had a the best season in his career and he had the best defensive unit in the country. He has always had good teams but he coaches in the Big 10 so he doesn't have the chance to really get the big time recruits. Texas could definitely lure him away from MSU with the money and I think he would be up to the challenge of taking on the job. Dabo, even if some of you think he isn't a good coach, will be looked at hard for the job. The only real question is whether or not he would take the job or not. Personally, I believe he would jump at the chance to become the head coach at Texas. He knows that Texas will pay much better than Clemson and the benefits that go along with coaching there are pretty good so he will take the job if offered. Mora might leave UCLA and he might not. I think he'll go for the job if offered just because the money is too great to pass up. The real place Mora wants to be is the NFL and other than Alabama the only other schools that could be pay comparable to the NFL are Texas and LSU. He could also recruit well in Texas.
Now for Saban. We've all seen this routine before by him, "I will not be the next coach at Alabama." or what some LSU fans refer to as the Christmas Day massacre. Basically it works like this, if Texas throws the 10 year, 10 mill a year with 1% of the Longhorn Network he's going to go. Don't care if he signed another extension. The only way he won't go is if, for some reason, he grows a conscious and decides not to go back on his word for once which could happen but the only person who really knows what Saban is going to do, besides Saban himself, is Jimmy Sexton so who really knows what is going to happen?
Anyway Texas is either going to hire Dantonio or Swinney if they can't get Saban.
tl;dr don't care![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbirdtongue.gif)

If you actually decided to read my extremely and obnoxiously long post you would have noticed that I do not think Texas will hire any of the black coaches on the list, and it is NOT because they are black.

The Klanhorns will never hire a black coach - that is a common nickname between all of their opponents

Why does anyone think they would hire that clown Dabo?

I don't get that either.

Saban will be named the HC at UT by Wednesday. There is no way around it, provided the 10M per season is still in play. He knows what the Tide is willing to pay him now. All Texas has to do is sweeten that deal and he's gone. Keep in mind that the State of Texas has no state income taxes. This deal could effectively double his salary from this season plus another million or so when it's all said and done. Who wouldn't want to maximize their earnings this close to retirement?

now u done dropped the race card in the Texas coaching search.

There's only three from the list worth considering - the LAST THREE. And there's only one who is worth the amount of money the winner will get - the LAST ONE.

I couldn't care less where he goes. I'm just calling it how I see it. I wish they would take Miles tomorrow, but no school in America wants that dolt.
I do know that once JFF is gone, Sumlin better haul his arse immediately. ATM will be a cellar dweller in the SEC not being able to play defense and no JFF. The lure of the SEC is going to be nullified by the next Texas coach that will have them in the top 4 playoffs in no time.

Ah so now Sumlin should leave? Really? A&M has all the resources Texas done, and a better conference. I would have agreed with that sentiment prior to A&M leaving for the SEC.
The game is different now

Sumlin would never leave A&M for Texas. Everyone can relax on that one.

And he can't finish in the top 3 of his division with the best player that's ever played there. My point exactly.

I know Saban is all about the money - but if he would bolt now, after the extension and his statements he said about staying, that would just be crazy. I would fear for his safety.

your math is very suspect. so Alabama has a 4% income tax which is deductible on the federal return making it 2%net. he will make 7 mil at bama, 10 mil at tejas. that 3 mil difference is still subject to federal income taxes and his agents cut of 6-10 percent. so he keeps about a mil and a quarter more per year. not double. roughly a third more. I also suspect you are not a taxpayer are you would be more familiar with tax paying.

quote:If I can oversimplify things like you, let me say this. Manziel is unlike any other player ever in terms of his electricity. He's also a bit of a punk. He did whatever he frick he wanted. And Sumlin let him because he was that good.

These last two years it was JFF's team, not Sumlin's. We'll see how he does next year when he's actually in control. I wouldn't count him out just yet
