If Mack is retained, how bad will it get in Texas after Oregon wins by 30?

I think Mack Brown has earned some respect over the years and should be treated decently. That said it is pretty clear that it is time to turn the page on his era. Maybe they keep him one more year so he can ride off without this shite-show and have some more dignity in perception on his way out but I think it would be a mistake to keep him when basically everyone associated with Texas will know he is a lame duck. Oregon is going to put a hurting on Texas like no other and it is going to get ugly if Mack is retained.

I think its going to be bad no matter what, but I think it will pale in comparison to if Saban loses 3+ next year, especially if its to Auburn.

I think it will be even funnier when that happens.
This time next year I can see Bama fans looking like this
They will have a come back to Earth season (seasons) over the next couple years.

The bevo is so mad at UT for not fireing Mac right now I don't see how it could get any worse. I expect a brick through the window any day now.

I agree. I know the MOney people favor Brown or at least that is what most of the posters say but after the beat down that Oregon puts on them and they looking at another mediocre year and mediocre bowl , things going to get real dicey over in Austin.

I'm definitely in the camp that believes what actually happened lies in between the two narratives. Bama folks say Saban's head was never turned by Texas, even for a second, while lots of Texas folks believe it was in the bag until Mack flipped the frick out when the plan and the timeline was leaked. For the portrayal of a doddering old fool that Mack seems to have earned over the years, he gets mad respect from me if he singlehandedly derailed this whole thing by digging in and taking the fight public when he got word that Saban was the legit target.
I'll fully admit that I bit, given the narrative that was being painted. Sometimes the "evidence" being presented can be oddly specific. I think that Bama folks are 100% full of shite if they can't admit that Saban was seriously considering the offer. If you subscribe to the Jimmy Sexton -Evil Genius angle, that it was all just to get money- that's just naive. If Saban wanted more money, all he had to do was ask for it. If money didn't figure into it AT ALL, then he should have released a statement saying that he was honoring the extension that was just signed in March and turned down the extra $2m/yr.
Where the Texas folks were delusional, IMO, is thinking that Saban wanted anything to do with that looney bin of a program after seeing how meddlesome the boosters are. It's like your potential in-laws: you're not just marrying the girl- you're marrying the whole family. Who knowingly walks into that?

I don't think Brown will be retained as head coach after the Oregon game. The reports of his departure were premature....it'll be after the bowl game. I still don't believe Texas will keep Brown as HC.
He may stay with Texas in another capacity though.

Not sure he stays in another capacity if he "steps down" after this shite show

I admit that I never thought Saban was seriously considering Texas. Call me full of shite but my post history will show I thought he was staying from day 1.
Saban signed an extension in March of 2012. Not this year my friend. Since then he has won a SEC championship, a BCS national championship, a Sugar Bowl appearance and lost a total of two games while winning over 20 games.
That would get every coach in America an extension and raise. Hell look what Sumlin got this year after 4 losses.
Money is a factor obviously and Saban deserved what he got.

Mack will do it again until he is the all time wins leader. I think he is within 10 wins of passing DKR. JMO and I could be wrong.

221 is the number if wins to beat dkr in total wins and really all Mack gives a shite about. I hope it takes him five to seven losing seasons to get there.
I can't stand the man. He's not some ole shucks old man like he is portrayed. He vindictive and sucks at his job. He has failed Texas for five years while fixing the football program. He has been blown out and embarrassed by much lesser teams. He hasn't been working hard either all the while taking home number 2 coach money with number 50 coach results.
He needs to be fired right now and I don't care about any records that the glory hounds wants. He is a failure of a football coach with only two conf champs in 16 years.

Pretty risky from a recruiting standpoint to hold off on getting a new coach until after the Oregon game. They might. If he is there for the Oregon game then I think he is there for the 2014 season.
Pretty much every coach they would consider is either playing in a bowl game somewhere or in the NFL. Not going to be easy to close a deal and keep it quiet.

You didn't in any way address the OP's question.

How does a Mack vs. Oregon thread morph into what Saban and Bama are gonna do next year in one fricking post?
Insecurity of the highest order.

I accepted an invite for a New Years Day party at a buddy's house who is a UT alum and a huge fan. UT is going to get smoked by Oregon and I'll have to sit an listen to hours of bellyaching about Mack and how he screwed them over.
I might have to cancel.

Mack's ego proves his is a true Texan and just cost them the greats coach of all time. If this would was the SEC he would have death threats and dead trees by now. UT will probably give him a bonus, which shows you are not big time football anymore.

Are we really sure that Oregon can smash Texas?
They got their asses kicked by a very average Arizona.
Last year everyone thought Oregon State would rock the Horns and Texas won.
While you can't exactly say team A beat team B ergo this happens, especially when its a rivalry game and in different years, Oregon did just barely beat Oregon State by 1.
If Case plays halfway decent Texas should be able to stay in the game.

Better question is do they make a serious run for Les Miles if he gets canned? I don't think LSU would be prepared to lose a coach at that point which would royally frick us if indeed did leave. Whether he does or not he still will screw LSU. Get a pay raise that's not deserved right now or leave and crumble our dangerous recruiting class.

Texas is in-between a rock and a hard place with Mack. Hard to justify canning someone with his overall, plus he's got 8 wins this year. Texas is just setting themselves back another year as far as trying to be an elite team again. Mack is done with being elite. And yes, Oregon is gonna hang a ton of points on them and it will be a bad loss for Mack.
