I think we should allow collisions at first base. Can you imagine someone barreling down the line at Prince Fielder? Talk about a blind side.

Put shoulder pads, shin pads, and forearm pads, at least, on these players. Make them heavy. We'll see offense, and collisions, improve dramatically.

Will the catcher still be able to block the plate.
If he can't, I'm ok with it.

If the catcher has to give the runner the plate until he catches the ball then I'm for it.

Just simply make it like every other base. Can't run over the fielder and the fielder doesn't block the base. In little league it is an incredibly stupid rule where the catcher can block the plate but you can't run into the catcher. Hardly any way to get to the plate without some silly sliding completely around it.

Wait, so how is it gonna be penalized? Is it the catchers fault for covering the plate, or the runners fault for running into the catcher covering the plate?

Pray tell, why would GMs be against this? All it does it open up risk for injury.
I'm not ecstatic they changed the rule, but lets be honest, how many collisions were there last year?

As long as they don't let catchers camp in front of the plate and force them to stand in front and swipe tag, I don't give a crap.
I'm no Giants fan, but what happened to Buster Posey was brutal.

at the other 3 bases you're automatically out if you try to barrel over the guy catching the ball.
This. Why should home plate be any different?
"Tradition"?

And you never see this at the other 3 bases because fielders don't completely block the bag making it impossible to slide into it.

Great!!! Now the PC world is coming into the Baseball world.

The catcher blocks the plate. What do you expect for the catcher to wear stilletos and let the ball pass.

If I hear that redneck backwards arse Walter and Johnson phrase "pussification of america" one more god damn timed. You fricking inbred shitbrained fricking hill people.
What is "pussy" about ending damage to the brain due to concussions?
Please enlighten me. Its not a collision sport.
Guys play this way their entire lives before getting to the pros. 20% of concussion in baseball occur from this very rare play.
Its not politically correct, it just makes sense.

Probably the same way it is penalized at EVERY level of baseball. You collide with the catcher in an aggressive way and you are out and possibly ejected.
ETA:Oh and Catchers won't be allowed to block home plate unless a play is there. Play is reviewable.

This really won't affect the game all that much. Probably more benefit than harm.
I was wondering though, what game is more physical, hockey or football?
