Why the hell would Shaw leave Palo Alto?

He could be the next college coach to jump to the NFL.

This the number I threw out earlier to day because it's the number I heard. This is the number that I heard in regards to the Alabama contract

That would work for Saban to Texas, but it would have to be 12 years - he doesn't even have to fulfill it - but $8.33 million for 12 years would be $100 million. The headline has to be 9 figures - Sexton has been floating that number for about 2 years. I thought the hail mary number from Texas would be 10 years for $10 million to satisfy that. He's even older now.

If he takes 7 years and $8.3 million from Bama, surely Texas will pay $9 million, right?

Not sure your fixation on the headline having to read 100 million dollars?

Are you familiar with an individual named, Nicholas Lou Saban, at all?

Or one James E. Sexton?

how is Harbaugh leaving success in the NFL for Texas more realistic?

Dantonio is a great hire, except for his age.

He is 57. Do they go after someone in their late 50's?

Outside of Saban, I don't see them going after a coach that old. Dantonio is a great coach, but his health issues and age pretty much take him out of it.

Shaw should get a look, but he's got a great thing in Palo Alto and is a Stanford alum.

There have been credible rumors JOHN Harbaugh has expressed interest. If true, they are crazy not to pursue him.

Some people here still think that the college coaching gig is more lucrative than the NFL

College coaches make a shitton of money and some people prefer it more (e.g. Saban).

However, it is WAY more work and that's not debatable. You don't have to recruit in the pros.

Actually the NFL is "way more work". The NFL doesn't have the limitations on practice that college does. It's 24/7 365. There is no break.

More than that though, the NFL is built for parity. If you win, you get a crappy draft pick and your best players all get raises that put salary cap pressure on you. Your roster is already only 53 players as it is so an injury or two is devastating. You have to prepare for a LOT more games when you count regular season, pre season, and playoffs and there are no easy games.

In college, once you have built a program it is something you can maintain. Even in the SEC you usually only have a few really difficult games for the most part by comparison to the NFL if you have a strong program. The more success you have, the easier your job gets because the top talent is interested in you to begin with. It's certainly no cakewalk but it is less work than the NFL.

Yeah that is where I got it from, but still the thought of Texas paying off his debt all at once is far greater than the 8.3 Mil a year

I just put his name based on an article that came out a few weeks ago saying he was looking to go to college. I have no idea if thats true or not but if it is he should be the #1 choice. That's all really.

Yeah that program is a mess IMO. But even at a mess they were a win away from a BIG 12 championship
when mac leaves that program will be in the sewer for at least 10 years or better....neither harbough or gruden or anyone of that caliber will take that job.....its a lot harder to hire a homerun for a coach than a bust...
