The SEC advantage over non-SEC teams with the lines is our speed. Sorry, but your line is still slow.

Also, I'm pretty sure even Welter is fast enough to cover your tight ends.

I cannot stand Iowa. I will tell you they are as fundamentally sound as Bama. We will have to beat them. They will not beat themselves. That said Iowa city & that chicken coop stadium is still a chit hole.

Chicken hawk Geaux back to your coop & get a life. As much as you can in that state. They don't call you the gate way to Illinois for nothing.

So size makes all the difference? Go check out the size of Shanahan's Denver zone blocking scheme and get back to me. Iowa is very technique solid with one of the best NFL OL coaches as our head coach in Ferentz.

While your at it, go check out the OL Iowa has put in the NFL lately. Sorry, but you're not going to win this argument.

NFL roster by Iowa (from ESPN, quick search).
27 players.
7 Offensive Linemen
5 TE

Great and congrats. Since your coach is an OL coach, would you not expect the above? It means exactly that. Ferentz has put a few in the league. LSU has done the same with D-linemen. Push at best.

However, playing zone blocking teams is not new to LSU. Bama, Arky, Auburn and so on all utilize zone blocking. Their coaches are pretty good too and you might have heard of a few of them.

While your at it..go check the number of defensive lineman LSU has churned into the NFL.

Comparing your run defense to Alabama and calling out LSU fans for hyperbole? Haha...terrible.

Listen, your precious run defense has let not one, but 3 teams go over 200 yards rushing. LSU has been grinding on teams all year with a pocket passer at QB.

"I like the matchup in the trenches (the advantage we will have)."

I promise you that you are in for a surprise huge surprise if you are just believe you have some big advantage in the trenches against LSU's offensive line/run game. You have 3 good linebackers? LSU is loaded at running back, and Miles loves to maul teams...can't wait to see Hill truck those linebackers.

I just have this feeling had Mett not torn his ACL , and you weren't facing a true frosh at QB you wouldn't be nearly so chirpy.

First, I'm not sure why you're so hung up on the size thing. Iowa has done very well through the years with undersized DTs. Again, technique trumps size every time.

So, your DT zone block too and that gives the technique advantage? Stay on point here, birdie.

Secondly, none of those defenses you listed are as good as Iowa's run defense. So common thread with a 4-3 or not (not that that matters either), there isn't a lot that Iowa has in common with any of the opponents listed that you ran on.

Alabama's run defense is a closer comparison (stats-wise) if you want an idea of what you'll be facing.

Now you are just bat shite (or bird shite) crazy. Hey, you know your team better than I, but everything I find is Iowa plays a base 4-3 defense. Four DL rush for pressure or clog lanes with LB there to clean up on RBs and WRs. On passing downs, 4 DL generate a rush and 7 drop in zone. Looks like base 4-3 to me. 20 sacks for the year, with 5 coming from one LB and 11.5 from the D-line.

You ain't Bama defensive wise. Different scheme..different personal..and different result. Other than that, LSU has face more than one team with a similar defense as Iowa.

Comparing stats farnered in the Big slow to Alabama etc. is comical. Sparty or the buck nuts would have been the SEC's 5th place team...in the West Division. A motivated LSU walks by Iowa. Will Les have them ready to play? Who knows. But the Tigers sleep walking is your only hope. That being said, it has happened before. But blowout...ain't gonna happen. You guys ain't Bama, Florida, or Georgia.

Hope you guys can look past the disappointment of the matchup to have some good discussion these next few weeks. Have really enjoyed the LSU fans we've run into the past several years. Should be a great time in Tampa.
I won't speak for everyone else, but I imagine those of us that are somewhat disappointed with the matchup probably feel this way.

Here's my reason.

It has nothing to do with Iowa not being a good team. It's simply because I thought a matchup with Michigan, although not as good a team, would generate more attention nationally. Add in the Miles/Cameron connection, and it gets even more hyped. PLUS, I'm currently working in ANN ARBOR lol.

Now to the matchup, I think we'd curbstomp Michigan with our running game, especially with AJ at QB. But Iowa is a good run defense, and our QB situation is an unknown, no matter what Harry Coleman Beast says. We need to win a bowl game in a big way. I think, of course as an LSU fan, that we will beat Iowa. But I was certain we'd beat the crap outta Michigan.

Really nice post there. Can't blame you a bit for wanting to play Michigan more, and I understand all the reasons you stated. No problem with it. It is what it is.

Iowa is NOWHERE close to Bama. Bama would run through Iowa like prune juice through an old lady.

Honest question, how many times will sec teams have to dismantle teams from other conferences with "highly ranked" defenses, or shut down teams with "highly ranked" offenses, before ya'll start realizing that O/D stats and rankings are not transferable across conferences. Seriously it's been over ten years of just getting whupped, and shite like "we're comparable to Alabama" still gets said. Unreal

How many SEC schools does Iowa have to beat in a bowl game before you start giving them respect?

Florida
South Carolina
Missouri...

...and LSU

I'm not saying ya'll can't win. It's very possible that we don't show up with our A or B game. But to throw around Big ten Stats like they're remotely comparable to sec stats is just silly

LSU is much better now than they were for the last Iowa game. That game has zero baring on this one.

I just want them to beat a N Illinois team at home, or a ranked team anywhere

Fortunately one game doesn't a season make. We've won enough to get to play you guys and you lost enough to have to play us.

The rest of the season really doesn't mean much now, does it?
