I know there are some that could play in the NFL or on the US national soccer team. Look at big khali, Jeremy lin, bruce lee or shaolin monks.

They have a hard time seeing the endzone.

Tiger Woods, Kristi Yamaguchi, Apolo Ohno, Michelle Kwan, Hines Ward, Michael Chang, Dat Nguyen are good examples.

Most are not participating in mainstream sports.

imo, what makes a good athlete is mostly due to high test levels and limb length. Asians have the lowest T levels, shortest limb lengths, and lowest average heights of the big 3 races.

so we compensate by working in nail salons, corner stores, and medical professions. all requiring no physical prowness or advantage whatsoever
ETA: in all serious though, most play sports for fun, but most asians are <6 foot. We can't really compete in basketball at the pro level. There are some that can play football, but our athleticism isn't that great. Rare you get one like Dat nguyen, but he was short as well. He had a high IQ for the game though. That and most parents prefer their kids to be professionals that make 6 figures. that is a higher guarantee than becoming a pro at a sport.

Hard to find many Asian guys over 6ft..I was able to make all-district at OL agaisnt some of the big boy teams (Destrehan,Hahnville,Ehret, Higgins, WJ, was when districts got reset after Katrina). But being a 5'10 OL doesn't take you very far

Because many of their parents force them to focus completely on school

Somewhat true for asian-americans, but to go outside the scope of this thread, we can see bigger reasons. China and india, despite having nearly half of the world's population cannot compete with the US or even Spain in Basketball, soccer, and other speed+strength related sports. Trust me, they ain't all studying over there.

Are sports a big part of the culture in these countries? If so, they may be totally different types of sports. I would also imagine that the political atmosphere of the area effects that. I'm totally ignorant to that part of the world but I would imagine that if they had the resources to recruit the best athletes from such a large pool they could be competitive in whichever sport they concentrated on
