re: Anyone else finding Ron Burgundy less and less funny?

This is another movie that got over hyped for me before I finally watched it. It was good, but couldn't live up to the expectations.
I think the commercials are great because Ron is a character that works better in small bites, not a full length movie IMO.

One of my favorite Will Ferrel roles was him in The Other Guys. I thought he was pretty funny playing the semi-straight, sheepish guy. :deskpop:

Pardon my ignorance on the subject, but who decides (and how) that a movie is going to get this much marketing, and how do they get everyone to go along with it?
Using A2 as the current example. Ok the studios set the release date and put out commercials just like every other movie. But then they get some crossover with Dodge and have RB do Dodge commercials..do they have some sort of partnership with the movie studio? Then ESPN...not just anchors casually mentioning the movie before commercial break, they will actually have the character hosting a segment? RB (the character, not will ferrel) is making rounds on talk shows?
How does that level of marketing happen for a particular film?

The first movie almost has a cult following. The movie is relatively inexpensive to make, so I'm assuming the studio wants to maximize it's earning potential.

I get why the studio would want to market the hell out of it, I'm asking how they get Dodge, ESPN, etc to get on board with it as well.
I feel like if I was an ESPN exec and someone said "hey we've got this new movie coming out and we want one of the main characters to host sportscenter" I'd be like "Ummm...no"

A good deal of his humor was being a stereotype of a 70's "alpha male" and it worked ok in the movie. But like all of Will Ferrell's characters the original bits fell away with time and Ron Burgundy went from funny misogynist to man child. All of WF's roles go that direction which leads me to believe he is very much a man child in real life.

At first I thought it was because ESPN and the Anchorman production company were both under the Disney umbrella... but it seems like that's not the case so I have no idea.
The Dodge thing makes sense... Dodge offers to pay a shite ton of money to have "Ron Burgundy" do commercials for them and Anchorman 2 gets free (to them) publicity.
Those Dodge commercials are terrible though.

I never got the Ferrell craze, never laughed at his antics once.
I'm not the biggest Farrell fan, but you're lying.
I'm kinda pumped about the new Anchorman actually...I thought the first one was just okay when I first saw it, but it has sort of grown on me over the years.
The marketing is definitely everywhere, but that's what studios do...I did like the truck commercial where RB was going on and on about the glove compartment though. That shite cracked me up.

This, god dammit
Also, I can see how the commercials are probably getting annoying. I love Will Ferrell and I can't wait to see new anchorman movie. Having said that, Land of the Lost is a strong candidate for worst movie I have ever seen.

ESPN has been doing this a lot lately. It's FAR more than just A2...they have actors on the shows promoting movies all the time now. shite, Jen Jeung even ANCHORED a show of SportsCenter like a week or so ago. Steve Carrell has done something similar anchoring different segments of the show.
This is not even remotely limited to A2.

Classic movie board thread where posters can't wait to claim how much they disliked something popular.

yea, but it's ESPN. they need antics like this to remain relevant.
