Who is giving Saban a free pass?

That last play will be shown for years

And at every Iron Bowl

And in every recruits home

Saban is not getting a pass

Judging by the Bama fan posts I've read, Saban did not get a free pass from Tide Nation.

I don't see Les arguing for that second.

And I honestly wonder if he would have actually had our QB take a knee after the change of possession and kill the clock to play for overtime...

Damned right. Les would have been immediately called stupid by Verne and Gary. The sports media would have destroyed him over these coaching errors.

Miles would've been nearly lynched for simply passing up the short FG to go up two scores. That long FG just compounded the error.

Saban egregiously screwed up the last five minutes of the game. But endgame has never been his best skill either (Iowa Citrus Bowl, the Miracle on Markham). He need UGA to screw up the clock to win the SECCG last year as well.

No coach is perfect. He's still a great coach and still perhaps the best recruiter in college history. But he started to believe his own BS. Bama has lost a game in November each of the last 3 years, during the time he won two MNC's. Most teams don't make the title game once when they spit the bit in the final month, Saban did it twice in a row and could still do it a third.

Going for it on 4th down instead of going for a two possession lead was dumb.

Going for the 57 yarder at the end was a good call. They just had a bizarre situation happen to them. Which makes it all the sweeter.

Miles would have faked the 57 yarder and of course it would have worked

1. First statement correct about 4th down!

2. Kicking the field goal at 57... I don't have a problem with that call.

3. Last statement not not correct and here is why!

LSU coaches were smart enough to put OBJ back to return the short field goal earlier this year and we scored off of it. Auburn coaches were smart enough to put a player back to return the short kick. Apparently Alabama's God coach isn't smart enough to have some sub 20 second 40 guys in to guard against that happening.

This is a stupid thread because Miles would have kicked the 30 yarder. He has always had a kicker that could kick what basically every decent high school in America can make 2/3 of the time. How the hell does bama not have a kicker that Saban feels can kick a 30 yarder?

Dude drop a safety add a decent kicker

Les hasn't won close to the National Championships Saban has.

Plus, how long was that FG attempt we ended the game with against Arky a few back?

Miles would have called to spike the ball with a second left.

Does he get blasted here while Saban basically gets a free pass? Is there a true double standard here? I think Saban was the reason they lost that game.

Les Miles would have been royaly grilled for both decisions. The decision to not kic the field goal from the 12 to go up by 10 was very bad. The long field goal, not as much.

You mean like he did against Arkansas this past Friday when LSU was down 6 with 10 minutes left in the game and it was 4th and 2 from Arky's 17 yard line, but Les decided to go for it instead of cutting the lead to 3 with a 34 yard FG?

I definitely didn't agree with this decision, but that is in another galaxy compared to Saban not kicking to go up by two scores.

Malzahn's choice to go for it on 4th down with 7-8 minutes left was almost equally as dumb as Saban's decision.

Just sayin...Saban doesn't make those kinda mistakes year in and year out. So he gets the free pass.
