Those Of You Celebrating The Bama Loss: If This Was 2014, They Are In

I posted this on the More Sports Board too...
Those of you celebrating this, remember, next year is the 4 team playoff.
Bama's loss last night literally would guarantee them a spot in the final four.
That's right: Bama would have a shot to win the title again by simply finishing third in the SEC, all the while giving themselves the easiest schedule and still failing to win out, just as they did in 2011 and 2012.
Third year in a row Bama would lose a big November game, but would be rewarded due to brand name and the fact that their rivals played tougher schedules.
Auburn and Missouri would actually be in a position to LOSE OUT OF THE FINAL FOUR by having to play the extra game that Bama, once again, wasn't even good enough to qualify for despite setting themselves up with the easiest path to get there.
Let that sink in.....
CFB is about to become a joke of epic proportions.

I've said this since the inception.

We'll worry about that next year. Hopefully it will be corrected so that a team has to win its conference. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying the fact that Bama is not in the running this time.

Slow your roll.
1. Fla St
2. tOSU
3. SECCG winner
4. Okla St if they win Bedlam
ETA: I still agree SECCG loser gets screwed in your scenario.

So your point is a 4 team playoff is worse for college football than the BCS system?

next year is a committee there is chance they are not in.
would a committee take a 1 loss non division champ bama over a 1 loss division champ of Oklahoma State. I would say no, its not a rank thing its a committee thing. They aren't promised a spot in the playoff at number 4.

And...? What's your point? I loved seeing them lose last night.

So it's not happening this year and a 3-peat (which should only be a one peat) is out of the question. I'll worry about next year...next year.

an 8 team playoff is about the minimum that should be done.
4 is like the worst of both worlds, 16 is a good all around number
there is no perfect system

quote:LOL. Did you see what Bama did to the No. 2 teams those years? Keep deluding yourself that they weren't the best team in the country.

Which I can accept. They are definitely a top 4 team. I think they beat Ohio State/Missouri/Auburn on neutral fields. I think Florida State is a push. But in the new system Florida State/Ohio State/Alabama and winner of SEC title makes a lot of sense for a playoff. You would have two undefeated and two one loss SEC teams. Nobody else really has a resume to compete against that. Baylor would be your next closest.

Why not take the winners of the Super 5-6 confrerences with 2 at large reperesentatives, and make it a real 8 team playoff! this way you take away most subjectivity out of college football!

My sentiments exactly.
The playoff system that everybody is clamoring for will be expanded to eight, then to 16 teams, and regular season games will become about as important as it is in college hoops and college baseball.
