Barry Bonds: It would mean a lot to me to make the Baseball Hall of Fame

quote:
"I do really care," Bonds said last year. "I may say I don't, but I do really care. I've been through a lot in my life, so not too many things bother me. Making the Hall of Fame, would it be something that's gratifying because of what I've sacrificed? Sure. Baseball has been a big part of our lives. We've sacrificed our bodies. It's the way we made our living."
As in any election to the Hall, a player must garner at least 75 percent of the vote to be elected. Earlier this year, of the 569 ballots cast, 427 votes were needed for election. Bonds name appeared on 206 of the ballots, finishing ninth overall.
Bonds knows he is considered one of the most polarizing players in baseball history. For 22 years, he did things his way, going against the grain inside and outside of baseball. The end of Bonds' career was marked by the BALCO investigation, suspicion of performance-enhancing drug use and the federal court case that resulted in one guilty count for obstruction of justice (currently still sitting with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals).
Bonds said that he wishes he had done some things differently. "But I can't turn back the clock now," he said. "Time has passed. Wounds for me have healed."
Bonds, 49, has said he'd like to get back into baseball as a hitting instructor.
"I'm an expert in baseball, and I don't even have a job," Bonds said. "I'm an expert, more so than a lot of people out there. It should be my career until I'm dead. I should be one of the instructors. I think I've earned it."

Not only does Bonds have the steroid cloud, but most of the media hates his guts because he was such a prick to all of them.

Bonds ain't gonna' sniff the HoF.

There would be a bronze shortage if his juicy head went into the hall.

Best baseball player of all time, if he's not in the Hall of Fame then it means nothing.

With or without steroids, Bonds should be in the HOF

More than it would mean to the white boy?*
*According to his then-GF, Bonds would never mention Mark Mcgwire by name, but referred to him only as "the white boy"

+1. This asterisk crap and these morality calls by the HOF voters are ridiculous. Steroids hasn't made anyone else his 73 hrs in a season. He won't get in because of that and the same reason Belle isn't in.

All he had to do was lay off the steroids. He already had a Hall of Fame career going but he got jealous of McGwire and Sosa. That is going to cost him.

Are you saying there aren't racists in the HOF and he would be the first?
Who cares how he referred to McGwire. Bonds would have numbers without the juice.
But you're a bit of a racist yourself, so that post is par for the course

Many of Bonds' accomplishments are commemorated in the Museum portion of the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum, as well they should since he has a lot of things worth commemorating. He just will not have a plaque dedicated in his honor in the north wing of the Hall of Fame portion of the building because he will not receive the required votes from the assigned voters to have dedicated in his honor such a plaque.
To anyone who says that excluding Bonds from the Hall makes the Hall of Fame meaningless, you are insulting the Hall and the game, and you are displaying a noticeable lack of perspective on what the Hall means and that it is merely a part of the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum.

You'll have to forgive him, the holidays are hard for middle aged men who are all alone.

He really should have a job as a hitting coach somewhere. Steroids are one thing, but nobody can argue that he isn't one of the top ten pure hitters in history.

I bet he cheered when they beaned Jackie Robinson in the head in 42.

This is true. Which is why it's beyond me that he decided to juice. Had he not juiced he would have been a first ballot HOFer. Now he'll most likely never get in.

Pete Rose should be in before Bonds.

as long as his plaque gets an asterisk

Baseball had no PED enforcement policy before 2003. IMO, there's no justification for baseball writers punishing players like Barry Bonds for taking steroids before 2003, just like there's no justification for them punishing players like Willie Mays for taking amphetamines before 2003.
