re: Will Benson's "Win-now" mode cripple the franchise?

Acquiring Holiday and Evans made this team a lot more attractive to bigger name 2014 free agents. It all depends what they want to do. Moving Gordon (assuming you get expirings in return) frees up the space to do so. You can't just tank three to five seasons in a row and hope you end up with great players from the lottery. Demps has made some smart moves building both through the draft and trades/free agency. Never mind the fact it certainly makes Davis happy they went out and got him some (youngish) veteran help and didn't just say 'yo, you're on your own.' It shows him the team is willing to spend to compete and will certainly help in retaining him in the long run.

Monty's first year where David West's untimely ACL tear crippled our playoff aspirations? (and I personally thought we could've won WC). I bet you are the most rational fan EVER

Monty being coach held me back
htan90 please go become a Heat fan, we don't need your ignorance or negaPelitivity on the bandwagon. You sound like the worst kind of fan, team starts slow and you blame the coach for no justifiable reason, not the lack of chemistry or the fact that Tyreke missed preseason or Ryno missed 9 games. You are so dumb you overlook the obvious intangibles that killed the Pels. I bet you thought it was completely Monty's fault EG's shot rimmed out vs. GSW too. Do us all a favor and F off

Did I frick your wife and you just find out?
First off, as a student who makes negative 25k a year, it isn't the smartest thing for me to spend money on season tickets. Especially when you hope the team makes the playoffs and they won't with Monty at the helm. Keep crying all you want, I've supported them through the shitstorm even if I don't want to spend the thousands for decent tickets. Like someone said above, why spend full price when I can pick my games for half the price? So frick off acting as if you're the best thing in the world. We have our reasons to be shitty, and if ONE player (outside of AD) causes us to be under .500 than that is not great coaching considering you have jrue, a healthy EG, tyreke, and AD still available to you. Monty is not that great of a coach. We can't even beat good teams, we lost to the fricking jazz to add on. Even the lakers without KOBE and d'antoni's system are above 500. And who's their fricking best player?
I've been to 3 games this year to support them, even without a season ticket so you wanna cry and bitch some more? When have I ever complained about that EG shot? Sure ryno taking it would've made more sense, but he had a great look and he'd make it at least half the times.
Keep bitching and complaining, I'm all up for the entertainment. NOLAbaby, might as well change it to NOLAcrybaby to make more sense.

I think the issue for this thread is the wisdom of a) trading Noel and a protected pick for Holiday and b) the cost of his and Evans' contracts. Do those moves really hamstring us? I don't think so.
Yes. If they can get to 40+ wins or even a taste of the playoffs, both moves were worth it IMO. And 100% agree that these moves do not handicap the team when they will want to make a move- this summer at the earliest.
Also, TigerinAtl on Davis's max. Maybe they could get him to take a Paul George discount?
LINK
Davis is certainly worth whatever he can get, but this move by George and Indiana is interesting

When you think back on the circumstances surrounding the Gordon re-signing, it almost had to be done. For a number of reasons, Demps couldn't let a RFA simply walk.
I'd want demps fired if he traded CP3 away and then let the biggest returning piece walk away months later.

Yep. Plus the franchise would lose credibility when it comes to contracts.

Exactly.
Signing EG was a no brainer. Phoenix just fricked it all up and made us give him a max deal.

Ok then he's not a good example. There's no debate about these kids. There's universal acceptance and agreement they'll be stars. I must have remember Howard's hype differently, I thought he was in that same ballpark.

jordan wasn't even picked #1
He was picked third in an equally loaded draft where the 1st overall pick is an all-time great and the second could never stay healthy. This is the kind of draft where you can get a HOF'er with the 4th pick is what I'm saying.

rose...has had like 2 good years
When healthy Rose has been exceptional. You can't hold injuries against what he is as a player.

none of the guys this past year or next year are close to the level of lbj/durant/melo/davis
Did you miss every single article about how Wiggins is the closest thing to LBJ? How Randle is the most polished college player since Melo? How Parker or Smart might be better than both of them?

I guess that depends on how close the team is to contending by then. George is on a contending team where how much money he makes now could directly affect his ability to get a ring. I think most players would trade millions for a tangible chance at a ring, trading it to make your GM's job easier isn't quite the same motivation.

he was exceptional one year and he was quite overrated in that year b/c the media was pissed at LBJ

putting all your eggs in an unknown basket who might get hurt is a worry, especially when you can acquire a known commodity on the court AND have an idea of how their body holds up

he's not close to LBJ. every super athletic HS senior is going to be called the next LBJ, just like how there was a "next Jordan" for 15 years until LBJ showed up
wiggins isn't even doing that much in college. sure he's serviceable, but he's not doing anything special. durant averaged 25.8 ppg as a true freshman. wiggins is at like 15.7. hell michael beasly was twice the college player
wiggins has been a major disapointment, actually. parker has been the #1 guy, and he's a 3.5 without a position as of right now. i'm interested to see how he does in the ACC, but he looks like a stud. he'll almost assuredly be a "small 4" in the NBA, which means he's playing davis's position
quote:

he's not. he's not even in the top 3 college freshmen since melo (Durant, Davis, Beasley). i don't care to think of any others, so don't think i'm saying he's close to 4 or anything

Well then, if articles say so, who am I to contradict them . . .
Posted on 11/30/13 at 8:15 pm to VOR
people have completely forgotten when durant actually did (and beasley the following year)

Based on their high school days? Im not a college ball guy at all, but cmon now. Austin Rivers and Shabazz were going to be stars coming out of HS too.
Certainly a couple of these guys will be great players, but there will be more busts than not. Foolish to throw away a season of Davis's development just for the sake of hoping to land a 19 yo that turns into an NBA star.

No shite. This is the thing that has been annoying the crap out of me about this next draft class. It's incredibly hyped, and no one . . . NO ONE . . . really knows how they'll turn out. There is no LeBron. I'm not doubting that there may be a couple of All Stars in the group. Maybe a superstar or two. I still like the move the Pelicans made. No doubt about it in my mind whatsoever.

I saw Randle play once. He looked impressive. Saw Wiggins play once...aight, I guess. Only saw Highlights of Parker. He's looked the most NBA ready of the trio.

Wait. I thought Monty was the problem?
To me he's the problem if he insists on the team playing his preferred straight jacket offense. The team should be running, and, thankfully, they seem to be now.
This team could be pretty good...heck, they'd be a 3 seed in the East.
