Listen... If you don't have at LEAST a few thugs on your team, you're not winning championships.

No, it doesn't. Anyone defending the actions explained in the OP needs some help.

What about their star RB who has been arrested a couple times, violated probation, and assaulted a police officer?

And he's still on the team

It wasn't the teacher that that happened to, it was someone in high school. The player just proudly retold the story as a paper written for an openly gay teacher.

Apparently "Know your audience" had not been covered yet.

The professor didn't get beat up. Allegedly, some player wrote an essay to an openly gay professor about a time he and some buddies beat up a gay guy.

This is not just fsu, this is all of big time college athletics. That does not excuse the actions though if true. I'm about at the point where i want college football shut down.

Nothing lamer than college professors not understanding that this issue jumped the shark a LONG time ago.

And the vast majority of major college athletics is a fraud. I really wouldn't have a problem if they went part time if they wanted to. At least we could drop the stupid student athlete bullshite.

Deadspin writer Barry Petchesky nailed it in the comment section replying to this:

quote:

Wow. I ended up feeling incredibly bad for almost every single party in this story. The faculty, the advisors, the players, damn near everyone. Well, except for the coaches and NCAA. Per usual.

Barry responded with:
quote:

Yup. Even the shithead players, to some extent. There's absolutely no reason amateur sports should be paired with college other than an accident of history.

That article is poorly written. The article raises as many questions about the competence of the faculty as it does about the alleged special treatment afforded football players. The author did not do a very good job of proofreading the article. I wonder what the earlier drafts looked like?

??

Did you read the whole thing. It was exceptionally well written.

quote:

Maybe that's unfair, but it's hard not to feel that way when you've seen the culture up close. We're a part of that culture, too. We love the game and the school; we may love the players. But we've seen what they get away with, and we know the fix is in.

He says they are part of the problem.
