I dont buy for a second that he regrets it

He was wired very different then most athletes, and i dont think he had the same motivations as most players

By leaving before somebody had to drag him off it leaves some mystery as to how much more he could have accomplished.

and he's more noticed for it, since he (Sanders) is the go to guy for this discussion (along with Brown until the people that remember him die out)

Depending on what you mean by "regrettable," the top three on this list are Brett Favre, Brett Favre, and Brett Favre.

Sandy Koufax retired early. Doctors told him he could continue pitching at a high level with regular cortisone shots but it would effect the use of his arm later in life.

Retiring early and never demanding a trade from that shite franchise has earned Barry much respect.

Behind that shitshow line he would've probably been walking with a cane at this point.

And if I remember correctly when he quit he had multiple years left on his contract and tried to get the Lions to trade him in the late 90s but they wouldn't.

I doubt he regrets it. He isn't crippled and he doesn't seem to have any lingering brain injuries.

Gale Sayers.....played 6 years, 4 time pro bowl. Had 2 terrible knee injuries that forced him to retire. He was a animal.

Not sure of regret, but the "best" rb of all time, retired way too early.

But then again, Jim Brown wanted to be able to speak, and not have a mushed brain in his 50's.

He ran vs 9 men boxes, and still ran all over them. Brown was a f'n beast

Got to be Tiki Barber, right? He retires early to pursue a career in broadcasting. Giants win the superbowl the next year and his broadcasting career is over before his twin brother retires from NFL
