" It's one of the oldest rules in the game, dating back to Gen. Robert Neyland's game maxims. The team that makes the fewest mistakes wins. Well into the third quarter, No. 13 LSU made more big plays than No. 1 Alabama, but the Tigers also committed two turnovers and costly penalties. That wasn't the only reason the Tide won. Alabama established a run game in the second half with touchdown drives of 14, 10 and eight plays. But LSU demonstrated that you can't beat yourself and beat No. 1.
Ok, we know the defensive issues but what happens to LSU offense when the game is on the line? It happened at Georgia and Ole Miss too.

The defense made a critical stop in the 3rd quarter at UGA with the game tied. Beckham muffed the damn punt, then UGA scores and LSU is forced to keep playing down a TD.

Deal with it... Miles is the best LSU can get.

It's ironic that in two losses the bad defense made a big 3rd down stop in the 3rd in a tied game and special teams have up a big play that lead to a TD and changed the game.

Are you new to football? Did you not watch any other games this year?

This was the only punt forced by the defense in the second halves of SEC road games. Pitiful.

Anyone who believes this is likely also in the market for oceanfront property in Oklahoma.

That isn't ironic. Irony doesn't mean this.
It is pretty tragic that even the announcers said "they called a time out because they want to fake it" and somehow we still weren't prepared for a fake.

I blame Alanis Morissette.

It's ironic you care enough to post that.

Why does this keep getting perpetuated? LSU was absolutely prepared & expecting the fake. Watch again...LSU just didn't execute.

If you can't stop an expected fake punt then I'd say you were pretty badly prepared.

Poor execution and critical mental mistakes is a sure sign of poor position coaching and preparation during the week.
That's where excels. If you can't technically coach your position to a very high degree and prepare your position athletes, you aint coaching for Nick Saban. He has zero tolerance for assistants that are weak football teachers.
What you need are great teaching coaches that can develop and get the most out of the talent that's on the roster. If they happen to be good recruiters then great, but that shouldn't be the promary reason they're hired.
High school recruits want to win Championships and it's the great teaching coaches that produce athletes who make few mental mistakes, which in turn lead to championships. It aint Rocket Science.
That's where Miles fails. He has too many weak links on that staff that aren't very good at developing the athletes they have. That's why you see the contant and repetitive mental mistakes. Poor preperation. The proof's in the pudding as I like to say all too often. What you see is what you get.
