2. Mack Brown, Texas $5,453,750
3. Bret Bielema, Arkansas $5,158,863
4. Butch Jones, Tennessee $4,860,000
5. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma $4,741,667
But it wont.

So, just because he inherited the program from Saban he doesn't deserved to be paid among the "elite" coaches, even though his record indicates elite levels of success? That's not how markets work.

Bielema makes $2.95 Million a year. The increase this year is the inclusion of his buyout.
Jones has the same $2.95 Million a year with his buyout increasing it.
Stoops has 1 NC, 4 BCS title appearances, 8 Big XII championships.
Meyer has 2 NCs, 2 SEC titles, and 3 SEC East titles among others just in his 6 years at UF, and already an undefeated season at tOSU.
Mack Brown is Les Miles only he rebuilt a bad program into what it is and is why he's gotten his due.
So all are understandable to be higher than Miles.

Miles salary is inflated just like everyone else's but outside of Mack Brown (Miles' twin), the rest bring more to the table than Miles. All the others are experts on their sides of the ball, Miles is not.
Again, using inflated numbers that count buyouts on this years salary to push Miles out of the top 5 is a pathetic attempt to make him seem underpaid.
I'd also venture to say that after 8 years at their respective schools, those coaches won't be making the same pathetic and elementary mistakes that Miles does still at LSU.

9. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa $3,985,000
Worst contract of them all- it runs until 2020.
He gets a annual bonus if he is fired, not included in the above figure, of $475K. That retention bouns increases yearly until it caps out a $575K.
The buyout, if fired without cause, pays him 75% of the remaining balance, paid out monthly. They would have to pay him $220,000 every month until 2020. Which is when he turns 65 and would have more than 20 years as a state employee.

wow
This article takes into account how much money the school is paying for their buyout at Wisconsin and Cinncinati, not how much they are actually getting paid. They probably should have included Derek Dooley's buyout money in for Tennessee if they wanted an accurate amount of how much money a school is paying for a coach.

ok, if that is the criteria, must finish in the top five over the last five years. then list the five teams that did it over the last five years? it wasn't the same teams every year. Consistantcy is what makes lsu a top five program. Over the last 13 only boise has won more games. In the last five years only 3 other teams has won as many games. boise, bama, and ohio state.
Number of times a team has ended the season ranked in the AP top 5 over the last five seasons.
Alabama- 3
Oregon- 3
Ohio State- 3
Texas- 2
Florida- 2
Utah- 1
USC- 1
Oklahoma- 1
Boise State- 1
TCU- 1
Stanford- 1
Arkansas- 1
Oklahoma State- 1
Notre Dame- 1
Georgia- 1
LSU- 1
By the agreed upon criteria LSU is tied for 6th with ten other teams.

amazing what fans will do to try and tear down their own program
I am not tearing down our program. I think we have an amazing football program, and we are lucky to have it. However, I am not going to allow my purple and gold glasses blind me from being realistic.

LSU is getting a lot more for their money than most of the schools on that list.
Holy shite is that ever true. Judging by that list, Miles (and Urban for that matter) is a steal.

I think Les had won more games and has had teams ranked longer and higher than a few coaches being paid more money than him.

I pointed out ways he had taken them above where he found them.
Most of everything you say is conjecture on your part and you are welcome to it.
LSU was playing 12 regular season games when Nick was here.
Nick had 1 top 5 national ranking in his 5 yrs and Les had 3 in his 1st 5.
So, Les did take them above where he found them....sorry that bothers you so much.

I'm assuming that you have inside the coaches meetings so you know exactly how much of an expert Miles is.

Name one that hasn't made any mistakes.
I know you hate Miles. That's ok. It would be interesting if you Miles haters could come up with something new, interesting and coherent to voice that hatred. Oh yes and original names for your alters would help too.

And people call Les Miles overpaid
Yeah, perspective is a motherfricker. 2-5 are an absolute joke. Miles must be worth at least 5.5M. Saban should demand 7-8.

And Les has had 1 in his last 5, and 1 in his last 6 likely after this year in the top 5. If you think where the program was in 2005 didn't help push Miles' numbers higher and overrate him, than nothing will.
Les has had one anomaly of a year in the past 6 where he was in the top 5 and even that year is tainted by his issues.

Reeeeeally stretching hard to discredit Les, there. You're agenda is shining through quite bright.

Have proven themselves as coordinators and by maintaining their sides of the ball relatively strongly while head coaches. Miles on the other hand has had historically bad offenses while at LSU.
Other than Mack Brown:
Saban has had a historic defensive run
Meyer has had great offenses for the most part all but 1 or 2 years.
OU's defense has been tops in their conference for most of his tenure including recently at OU.
So again, other than Mack Brown, and not using false annual salaries for coaches including buyouts to push him down, that he is anywhere close as a coach on his side of the ball to those guys?

He also has benefitted with the back-to-back 10 win seasons by the fact the there were now 12 game regular seasons, a conference championship, and a bowl game. That is why I laugh when people bring up these numbers, they are affected by the fact that he got one more garbage game added per year compared to coaches in the past.
Miles has coached 5 of the 10 best teams in LSU football history.
05, 06, 07, 10, 11.
You act like sustaining greatness that he inherited is easy. Ask Larry Coker about that. I'm not going to fault the man because he inherited a great situation.

Oh, that's nice. How has every other aspect of their team done? Would you trade the current state of LSU's program with OU's? If so, this conversation is over.
