Then, why did that team win but 9 games in 04, finish 4th in the SEC, out of the SEC race in 1st week of Oct., and wind up at #16 nationally? Poor coaching job?
Sounds like a team I know that some people consider to be in the top 5 programs nationally.

Actually we are getting a good deal on miles. Other than Meyer and saban, who has been better? None of them.

Its funny cus I see names thrown around that are not far off of miles salary. So basically wed have to pay some one more than what we are paying miles if y'all want a change. Other than that I don't think lsu would throw that kind of money at anyone. So wed be getting a no name.

These are a little skewed. They include their respective money owed from previous schools

Top 5 for a 8 yr period of time overall...sure. I don't know how that can be debated when you have national rankings of #3, #5, #1, #17, #8, #2, #12, and current #10. Add in 3 west titles, 2 SEC titles, and 2 BCSG appearances. You know of 5 programs that have none better overall in the last 8 yrs.?

I don't.

Are people really making fun of Arkansas and Tennessee for paying first year coaches that are rebuilding programs? Some of you really have no sense of circumstances. Hell, Saban went 7-6 his first year at Bama. Turning around a program doesn't happen overnight.

Bama went 10-2 and 6-6. Before saban. Shula had some bad luck with injuries. What turn around?

amazing what fans will do to try and tear down their own program.

Swings both ways though. Anyone can manipulate stats to fit their agendas. Fact remains that Les hasn't taken LSU above where he found them.

Two years for each coach's teams prior to taking over said team:

Bama (Saban) = 16-9
Texas (Brown) = 12-12
Arkansas (Bielema) = 15-10
Tennessee (Jones) = 10-14
OU (Stoops) = 9-14
Louisville (Strong) = 9-15
Michigan (Hoke) = 12-13
Iowa (Ferentz) = 10-13
tOSU (Meyer) = 18-8

LSU (Miles) = 22-4

So it's a pretty damn big circumstance that he had over all of them.

This is pretty comical

ETA: Butch Jones is making waves. Let's see if he can get to Atlanta in the next few seasons though.

He "found them" at #16 nationally. He found them with not one back to back 10 win season in the 5 yrs prior to his arrival. He found them with 1 Top 5 national ranking in the 5 yrs prior to his arrival. He found them with 1 11 win or better season prior to his arrival.

Within 3 yrs he had "them" with 3 Top 5 national rankings, 3 11 win or better seasons, and 3 back to back 10 win seasons.

He took over a program that had won an NC 2 years before and the previous year, lost to two teams on the road by 1 point to an eventual undefeated and beaten badly by another on the road. I don't really think much about the bowl game since it was obvious the players'/coaches' heads weren't into it with Saban and company leaving.

If Miles doesn't luck into the NC game in 2007 with 2-losses, he's not even matching Saban's tenure here with 8 years to show for himself.

He also has benefitted with the back-to-back 10 win seasons by the fact the there were now 12 game regular seasons, a conference championship, and a bowl game.

That is why I laugh when people bring up these numbers, they are affected by the fact that he got one more garbage game added per year compared to coaches in the past.

So many fails in that list. It's amazing to me how many of these schools get suckered in to paying these guys all this money with little or no results. If we all did that on our jobs, we'd be fired.

Again, how are there that many fails?

Bielema and Jones are in their first years rebuilding two down programs.

Strong has done well at Louisville in revitalizing that program.

Stoops for all the hate, got them an NC and 3 other NC appearances and a ton of conference titles/BCS bowls.

Mack is definitely on the downturn, but brought UT from horrible underachiever to an NC win, another NC appearance, near 3rd one, and has them as badly as they lost this year in contention for a Big XII title.

Ferentz brought Iowa to uncharted levels and then dropped off, so you have a point there.

In the end, people write off these guys when they had 1/10th of what Les was handed at LSU.

I love how people dismiss what Miles has done under the assumption that sustaining a succesful program requires nothing more than pressing cruise control and saying "frick it". Then again, it's not like any great programs have gone to utter shite due to an apathetic or inept coach... Oh wait.

5 of the top 25 have worn purple and gold as Tiger coaches. Interesting.

So accepting that Miles took over a program just reaching its peak as compared to down programs means he sucks? He doesn't suck, but his record is inflated compared to others when you look what each took over, plain and simple.

That said, he's done an above average job given the circumstances, but not one, IMO that merits his salary.
