Last year I tore up the redfish. Limits every time just about

This year I cannot catch them(or specks for that matter) to save my life. It's been pretty tough and demotivating.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Is it just gonna happen or how do I bust it. I feel like I need to get back on the water ASAP after today

Nope

J/k. From all the reports I heard today everyone had the same luck today. Chalk it up as a bad day and move on.

Yep this summer. In MS our fishing is diff from LA for specks and reds. We gotta run 7-12 miles offshore to the barrier islands for good fishing. The wind never laid down this summer and we couldn't fish it like we wanted to. It sucked. I limited 1 day all summer at isle au pitre on my own. The only charter trip I did this year (Lafitte) was sick. Limit on reds and specks. So only 2 really good trips this year.

ETA- Boxing 10-15 fish was way to freaking normal this year.

I once fished an entire summer without catching a bass all the while my brother who I fished with every weekend caught fish every time we went. We were both fishing the same baits too, so no clue what my problem was.

I just eventually started catching them again. It sucked for sure, but you'll get out of it.

Happens to me all the time. I've changed my fishing philosophy to take whatever is available. If the reds aren't there and the trout aren't there, I look for shrimp or crabs. If they aren't there either I'll look for some saltwater blue catfish (they are always available). Becoming more of a hunter-gatherer and less of a sport fisherman has made it more enjoyable for me. I never go home empty handed.

dude you were like 13 and i was 17. we sure learned worm fishing the hard way. good times.

but to the OP, last year i caught double digit bass on the reg (almost every fishing trip after may 1). this yr i have like 2 trips with double digit bass and one of those trips none of the bass were over 1.5 lbs. all i can say is i clearly have a lot to learn about fishing. i'll be back at it after hunting season though.

I worked on several clear water flats for 2 straight hours and couldn't get hits. Threw the whole tackle box

I struck out the last two trips, yesterday being one of them. It's kind of depressing . I normally don't think about all the money I spend on fishing stuff until I have days that I don't catch anything.

What you need is a slump-buster.

Go out there and catch an ice-chest full of anything that is easy to catch. Sheephead are a good candidate. It'll help get your confidence/mojo back
