I'm so fricking tired of hearing the knowing assignments excuse. Only assignment he knows is to get blocked out of every play and show up late to every tackle. Oh, and to clap his hands together every time people blow right past him

I really think the only reason welter starts is because barrow isnt capable of running the defense (audibles, getting guys in spots, etc) and lamar is a bit small to play the middle. our ideal linebacker corp would be louis and kwon on the outside with barrow running the mike.

I watched the replay yesterday; wanted to chime in on "the Welter debate". It seemed that the popular wisdom in his defense was that he wasn't the most athletic available but got playing time because he was the most fundamentally sound- at least he knew what he was SUPPOSED to do...

Well, after paying attention to him for awhile, I gotta say--- that's horseshite. Half-a dozen times at least, I saw him totally out of position because he took off excitedly chasing somebody in motion, leaving his area wide open for the big gain. Oh, and THEN he comes running back over and chases the guy down the field from behind....

The guy who said something to the effect "he's like a dog chasing cars" has got him pegged; made me LOL.

There was one play where loston missed the tackle slipped and fell down and laid there and watched the play. He made
No effort to get up and pursue the runner. I am sure there is someone else on that team that actually wants to play.

OP is 100% correct. Welter fricking sucks. LL has to be on the field. Just try it 1 game and take a look at the results. I would think that LL would provide a bigger defensive impact.

I'm not going to dump on Welter but the facts state Lamar Louis should be out there.

You know how many games Welter played in last season?

2. The opener with North Texas and the bowl game.

Lamar Louis on the other hand....

11. Started 5 games in the last 7 games of the season. Keep in mind Kwon had a broken ankle then.

Come on. He should be in there with Kwon and Barrow.

Again, not dumping on Welter but LL needs to be out there. He made a great play in that Ole Miss game.

Thanks for the input, but to be honest if anyone could not conclude that Welter is the wrong solution at Mike almost no matter who we have backing him up. They really don't know the game. The guy is just not starting material on a championship caliber team in the SEC. Not trying to be a dick to him, but his play is just substandard.

Really has me questioning is it lack of talent "recruiting - on the coaches," lack of coaching up the talent "on the coaches" or just plain the coaches can't see past the nose in front of their faces as to whats on the field "again on the coaches.
John Chavis is generally considered to be one of the top ten Defensive Coordinators AND Linebacker coaches in the country. Why don't yall contact the Chief and ask him why Welter is starting? We'd all like to know what the reasoning is.

Just watched Ole Miss replay

If you get a chance, go back and watch La'el Collins on the first offensive play. He put 3 Ole Miss defenders on the ground. I'm sure it's probably happened before, but I can't recall ever seeing that in a college football game.

I just watched the condensed game and I saw a LSU team playing hard and if not for 3 interceptions would have won a hard fought game.

Welter is an embarrassment to Lsu football. He's the laughingstock of the Lsu defense.

I've seen better Mike LB's on high school teams. I was flabbergasted after watching TCU game how we were giving DJ any playing time much less starting??? Personally, I think a Louis / Beckwith rotation would get it done. Get those athletes on the field and let their beastly instincts takeover. I don't get the premise behind starting an undersized mediocre high school LB that is either chasing or getting dragged.

One thing that I noticed was just how close the D was to getting off the field on that last OM drive.
3rd and 9, Ego gets a mitt on the QB and if he even slows him down a little, Hunter gets him. QB makes it by 1/2 a yard.
3rd and long, Robinson breaks off his man and comes within an eyelash of breaking up the first down pass to Logan.
Sometimes, it's a fine line between winning and losing.

Biggest concern was the way we got completely gashed in the running game. Not the on the zone read.

No need to rehash Mett crapping the bed the 1st half. There were underneath routes on the 1st 2 int's that were open.
The last int, was just a bad throw. Funny thing is, if he underthrows that one like he did the 1st 3, ODB catches it.

Wow. Did not know that about Kwon.

Also, like many others, I didn't need to watch the replay to realize Welter sucks. I saw his play in all the previous games and it really stood out. Getting blocked/pushed 5 yards downfield, looking very slow running to the play (when unblocked), no aggressiveness, etc. But the Ole Miss game really showed LL's ability and athleticism and how much a difference it is to have those traits at our Mike.
