What does the OB think of Catahoula Cur's?

I just lost one of my dog's (american bulldog) and thinking about getting a new puppy. I had a Ladner blackmouth cur in the past and she was a great dog.
I have always been skeptical about Catahoulas but these puppies are beautiful. I really want one.
What does OB think about them? Stick with Blackmouth or go Catahoula??

I have noticed that they are either great dogs or a spawn of satan. Was not sure if it was just me or the general consensus

Great for killing things and chewing ears off of cows. I want one.

Great working dogs, can be aggressive but have seen some that made great pets. Be careful with the blue eye, lots of times this can result in blindness.

Right, they are good at what they do. I was kind of joking about the one step above a pit thing.
You can't fault a dog for doing what it's instincts tell it to do.
Would I let one play with my baby? No.
Would I let one catch/bay up hogs or run cows? Absolutely.

Thats the issue I have. Have seen the "gentle as can be" AND "this fricker is crazy!".
Have not been around enough to really make a decision. Probably will stick with blackmouth or Scott American bulldog.
Sure are pretty Louisiana state dogs though.

I've got an 8 yr old catahoula and he's a great pet. I've never used him for hunting or working, he's just a big house dog. He's very vocal, barks a lot, wines, howls and makes gargly noises. He's got tons of energy so you need to have a big backyard and be ready to walk them a lot. They're really smart as well but hard headed. And he's protective of his territory and of me & my fiance so he makes for a good lookout. I really don't have anything negative to say about him other than he's loud all the time.

All the ones I've come into contact with are aggressive and dumb as a rock.

I have been thinking of getting one when my boxer dies. I am not ready for her to go but at 9-1/2 yrs old i know she won't last forever.

We always had two or three when I was growing up. Great cow dogs and could trail deer really good. They also barked plenty at night. Like most working dogs they need exercise or they will tear shite up.
But very loyal and protective of anyone living in your house.

I have a catahoula thats 2.5 now. Smart is an understatement. He's incredibly gentle with my boys 5&7 who use him like a wrestling dummy. When he's had enough he just gets up and moves away. He's a different dog when I'm not home. My wife says he flips a switch and goes into protection mode. He's bayed the UPS driver in his truck several times. When I come home he snaps back into puppy mode and is all play. There is no quit in this dog. When he sets his mind to do something it's gonna happen. He's a damn escape artist though. I should post pics of the dog pen. It started life as a 10x10 chain link pen, but has become a concrete and steel reinforced prison cell. He runs free when we get home from work and gets his exercise by chasing any and every little creature around my house including the kids on their power wheels. He's fairly destructive, but only if I'm not doing my part with exercise or food.

Thanks for the advice. Went to work and have been busy ever since.
That was how my blackmouth was. I heard she went into crazy mode when family was not home, very protective!
It's a toss up now for me. Another Blackmouth or a Catahoula
