Greg Monroe is unlikely to agree to a contract extension with the Detroit Pistons this month, setting up restricted free agency in the summer.

NBA teams can only have one five-year designated player, which the Pistons will likely keep for Andre Drummond before the 15-16 season.

The Pistons will have the ability to match any offer Monroe receives in free agency.

Pistons will likely match most offers, but I know he's a favorite target up in these parts.

I would love to somehow get him, but obviously I wouldn't give him the 5 year as that will go to Davis. We'd also have to S&T for him, because Detroit is likely to match anything, and we won't have the money to sign him outright with sending something out, like EG (which I can't see the Pistons having interest in).

I'd consider Anderson and filler but they will most likely get much better offers than that if they even decided they wanted to trade him.

I can definitely see us becoming a player for him.

Anyone know if he has a lot of close ties still in south Louisiana where he would be drawn to come back?

Unless his family moved up to Detroit with him I would think he has lots of ties down here. Even if they moved I would think they'd be happy to move back.

His mom still lives down here. They interviewed her last year during our home game against the Pistons.

Not surprising.

Monroe's agent, David Falk, came out this past spring and said they want a max. Something like "We can get the $ from a bunch of teams. We want other things from an organization."

Rumors are Detroit is skittish on giving him that max, even a 4 year deal. If things don't go well with Smith and Drummond, he could be prime trade bait.

To me, Monroe is not a max player. I would pass.

I would love to put monroe next to davis! One of the best young bigs in the game. I'm all aboard the twin towers train.

Could have had Nerlens Noel on a rookie deal as opposed to signing Monroe to a max deal

Monroe>Nerlens

I don't see how it would work though. The pelicans would probably have to move Gordon for the deal to work.

Also, I definitely see him getting a 4 year max offer from someone.

Nerlens is too similar to davis, while Monroe is one of the most well rounded big men in the nba.

monroe and davis should both be able to hit outside shots . Monroe is very crafty on offense and he can pass somewhat. He seems totally healthy and is a solid 250+ pounds.

I'm very excited for the season, but I'd take monroe with Gordon's money in a heartbeat and give tyreke more time at the 2. Being able to pick up a real, starting SF that can hit shots with andersons contract (wilson chandler or chandler parsons for example) would allow everyone to play their more natural positions imo.

I'm not happy with the frontcourt situation.

I can tell you that he is constantly taking trips back to New Orleans during the offseason, as I have been in the same venue as him a number of times

If we did not trade Lopez he would be on the books for 2 more years, and we would not have Evans. I think 99.9% of us would rather Evans over Lopez.

Give me an Allstar PG over raw rookie center anyday.
