That makes no sense and i'm going to need more clarification on that.
You think they actually have someone go check the parking? They are their to divert traffic at a certain time not to manage parking.
I thought it was 3hrs before kick off but for some reason they did it at 11am Saturday.

I wish they would have put a sign up somewhere along river road saying the levee lots were closed
People sat in the traffic for 2 hours only to be turned away
I parked in someone's yard for 10 bucks just so I could be done with it

I ride a bike to campus.
And let me guess...you are virtually never caught in a traffic stand-still. What an interesting idea.
Yeah it is.
I mean who doesn't want to ride a bike with their wife and 2 kids and an ice chest and platter of boudin balls?
If the few people that live close to campus and have tickets and don't have any restrictions to ride bikes (kids, food, drinks, tents, etc) actually rode their bikes, it would make zero difference in the parking situation when those 50 people or so rode their bikes.

Exactly what i have been saying. No more free parking on campus!!!!! Get a pass. It will help the traffic problems.
The day they start charging for passes everywhere on campus is the day you get your wish. Until then, I park in Kirby Smith for free, and if you get there early enough, it's never a problem (even with the field now gone as an option).

Y'all obviously don't know a proper routine
I've never sat in traffic leaving a game.
Step 1. Stay til the end of the game
Step 2. Sit at your tailgate for 30-45 minutes snacking or drinking
Step 3. Leave and get to Lafayette in 45 minutes

How about you stop posting about the good tailgating and parking spots on here?
Posted on 10/15/13 at 9:59 am to Spirit of Dunson
the stadium has increased in capacity by nearly 50% and it seems like parking has been reduced by nearly that amount over the last 15 years or so...
combine the reduction in mass transit options and the increase in tailgating and you have a recipie for exactly what happened on Saturday
BREAK BREAK
Dunson, do you still have my e-mail, need to talk to you?

The other problem is that the game is at 2:30. I bet if the game was at 7, this wouldn't be a problem, b/c you have people arriving on campus all day, instead of about 75% of the people arriving in a 2 hour window
yeah

A few years back I probably would have bitched but now I would gladly pay $100.00 for a season pass for what is now free parking.
To get a spot in Kirby Smith you basically have to be there 5 or so hours before a 6pm or 7pm kickoff. Probably not so long for the 2:30 game because not many out of towners are going to leave before 7am to make a drive to Baton Rouge.

It doesn't matter anymore good parking at Kirby Smith has come to end especially with the new dorm construction.
And if you know what you are doing its a minimal drive to the interstate from that end of campus.

Maybe an AM channel - like the Causeway uses - would be able to update people in realtime about the parking at given lots and direct them to the ones not filled. Or even use the KLSU station. Given so many with smartphones how about a Twitter feed or FaceBook page that can be updated in real time.

Not a bad deal, except you can't carry a big canopy and tailgating stuff on a bike. You can, however, carry a fith of crown.

Problem is you're relying on the idiot cops and parking people to relay what they are seeing for this to work.
if the helicopters that ride around all day were giving info, then that would be more helpful.
regardless, sounds like a great idea.

Did that dude just suggest only people with tickets should be allowed to tailgate?
I don't know if he suggested, it, but that's what should have been happening all along. Tailgating is out of control.

As others have said, LSU has increased seating capacity while reducing parking spots. Couple that with the fact that there are THOUSANDS on campus who have zero inclination of going to the game and are simply there to tailgate, and you start to get a bigger mess.
Personally, I park downtown and take the CATS bus in. It is by no means quick, as the people running the transit are complete idiots (if anyone has ridden the bus this year they can attest to the level of incompetency of the CATS personnel), but I can generally get to the stadium within 1.5 hours from home in BR (could be A LOT less if the morons running it had even a glimmer of common sense, but I digress). After the game Sat., and yes I was one of those weirdos who stayed until the end, it took us 25 minutes to get from my seat to downtown.
However, IMO, the biggest part of the problem is the amount of picnicers (that's what I call those who have no tickets to the game, but just want to come out and have a picnic on campus). Personally, I have no problem with them being out there, but there should be priorty free-parking for the folks that have tickets to the game. If you don't have a ticket, fine, but you're going to park as far away from the stadium as possible. I know it may not be a popular sentiment, but all the "picnicers" are doing is causing more gridlock, while contributing nothing financially to LSU (i.e. by purchasing a ticket) with there presense out there.

I will confirm with my personal anecdote that this year for the first time I personally have dropped off a vehicle the night before and/or arrived at 7 am to secure a spot.
Wow, someone who incurs a problem and develops his own method to adapt and overcome the problem.
What a refreshing approach.

yeah it does appear that the cops are a big part of the problem.
I have been saying this for years. They rarely if ever direct traffic, they rarely get out of their cars, they park their cars in traffic lanes and block them, further constricting traffic, they place unnecessary barricades that redirect traffic inefficiently, they close off free parking lots when they are still well below capacity because "I'm just following orders", and when they actually do direct traffic, it's an absolute nightmare.
Traffic doesn't really begin to flow until they leave. Which is why for night games, I generally stay until the end of Saturday Night Live, because by then, the cops have left and all of the cars can finally flow out.
We would be much better off as a whole with just a handful of cops directing traffic at places where lots of pedestrians need to cross a busy street. Everywhere else, send them home and stop draining LSU and the State's coffers by paying them useless overtime to make things worse.
