What oil & oil filter do you use?

Changed mine this weekend and am curious as to what others here use. Seems like I get a different answer everywhere I look for which is best.
My Truck:
Purolator Classic Filter
Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic 5W-30
2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab with the 5.3 V8
GF's Car:
Purolator Classic Filter
Castrol GTX Part Synthetic High Milage 5W-30
2006 Chevy Malibu with the 3.9 V6
This was my first time with the Purolator. I've always used AC/Delco but had a mechanic buddy tell me their quality has gone down in recent years. He recommended I try Purolator.

For a crankcase, you usually aren't gaining much from synthetics. While the oil itself holds up longer, it will still load up with blow-by crap long before you reach the usable life of the oil itself.
With gearboxes, steering pumps, etc synthetics are usually worth using, since blow-by isn't an issue and thermal loading is.
My trucks get conventional 5w30 and mobil filters usually, fourhweeler gets conventional 10w30. Sometimes I put other stuff in the 4x4 if it's on sale.

I use Valvoline in Everything, specifically MaxLife in my truck.

Pennzoil man here. When I hit 75K, I switch to the High Mileage version. I also use Fram filters, and use the HM filter at 75K as well.

I have a little less than 70k on mine. Although I've been told that you can go up to 15k on one change with the Mobil 1 Full Synthetic, I couldn't imagine doing it. I try to change mine around 7500k and the oil is really dark. I don't know if the color really has anything to do with it or not, but I'm not chancing it. It's too easy to change.
ETA: I toyed with the idea of using Royal Purple since apparently it's the best, but there is no way in hell I'm paying that much for it.

I've been running Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 in my truck..think it's got a Bosch filter on it now.
I also have a billet oil catch can for the blow by...wish I had gotten it sooner.

When I was in highschool and making what I thought was $5000000 a year, everything I had was full of royal purple.
Synthetics pay off big time everywhere except the crankcase.

My mom has a 2009 and it's been a good car. The only problems it's had was loss of A/C on the driver's side and a radio dial that popped in and wouldn't spin. As much as those sucked (especially the A/C in LA summer) they were both replaced under warranty.
For my 2004 GMC Envoy with 125k miles:
7 quarts Royal Purple 5w30
K&N or Mobil 1 EP filter
or
7 quarts Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30
K&N or Mobil 1 EP filter
I usually do a seamfoam treatment about 2-3 days before changing my oil to get all of the crap to fall into the oil pan. I treat the upper intake manifold (the smokiest part), the crankcase, and the gas tank. They suggest 1/3 of the can in each spot.
I do about 10-12k miles between oil changes. I use the oil life meter that's already on the car. It may only calculate oil changes according to mileage but that works just fine for me.
I've heard Wix filters are the best. Can anyone elaborate on their experiences with them?

That's usually a far better thing to go by than just mileage. It uses several parameters like hours, engine load, etc.

That's an expensive erl change.

That's what I hoped. I usually drive like a bat out of hell anyway. That's the downside of having no low-end torque to speak of.

My giant 4.2L I6 loves the purp. I just have to give her a whole lot of it.

The "every 3k miles" thing was invented by jiffy lube.

Pretty smart. It caught on and people are wasting a ton of money getting changes too frequently.
You seem pretty knowledgeable on this topic. What would you suggest I use for oil filtration? AC Delco? K&N? Mobil? What do you think is the best?
Posted on 10/15/13 at 8:35 am to bapple
I know a good bit about what goes on in crankcases. I know nothing about the guts of the filters on the market.
I use mobil filters because they are the heaviest
Whatever you put on there is probably fine.
As long as it meets or exceeds all of the certs listed in your owner's manual it's fine. It's more crucial with diesels using low ash oil.
