My Dad wouldn't let me leave the stands...Jim Henderson was working the game for WWL TV in NOLA and got hit in the eye with an orange doing interviews after the game...he did his sports segment on the news with a black eye the next few days. It was dangerous on that field for sure in the aftermath.

I have some good Tiger memories.

The FSU game with the oranges. I was in the student section at the bottom and spent a lot of time standing backwards, deflecting oranges that would have hit me or my date in the back of the head. Also, people were throwing those old stadium chairs they used to rent at the game. They were metal framed with some canvas covering. That was the last game I remember LSU renting those.

The USC game in L.A., trenching yards in Beverly Hills and going to watch Battle of the Network Stars.

LSU vs ND in South Bend, running out on the field after the Tigers won (cops did not appreciate it) and taking turf home to replant.

Tulane vs LSU in the Dome back when Tulane could pull an upset, after the game, two LSU guys had a fight with two Tulane guys outside the Dome. One LSU fan knocked a Tulane guy down with one punch and told him to stay down. The other two fought a little longer but the LSU guy got the advantage and the fight was stopped. The crowd watching was cheering LSU LSU LSU LSU! During the fight.

Leaving the stadium after the Auburn interception game and seeing our car had been keyed back to the Stone Age and the face on the guy at the rental car place when we dropped it off!

Good times.

The bruises were worth it. The view peeking up into stands was priceless.

The problem with drinking during the games, for me at least, is that my memories are really just "glimpses". Here are my highlights:

Lining up, at the stadium, well before the gates opened; handing the gate official our ID Cards for admission (our ID was our "ticket" and it was notched to prevent it from being used multiple times) and hoping I wasn't asked to pull up my pant legs and find the flask tucked into my cowboy boot.

I remember that the opposing team HAD to enter the field first and when they did the entire stadium erupted into repeated "Tiger Bait, Tiger Bait" until our team poured out of the Tiger Den. (I do so miss this tradition and wish we could bring it back!)

I remember Ohio State, in a then rare televised game, refusing to enter the field first. Everything was at a standstill until the TV Officials forced both teams to enter at the same time. Everyone was PO'd about that!

I remember Big Red, I think that was his name, in the NEZ. He had the voice of a megaphone. When everyone else was quiet he'd erupt into a "Tiger Bait" solo that I swear could be heard throughout the stadium.

I remember after the '78 LSU / FUSC game standing in ovation; cheering our team's effort; refusing to leave the stadium. Did they start turning off the lights to get us to leave?

I remember the hail storm of oranges during the '82 FSU game (and trying to land one into a Sousaphone) and the very eerie fog that began pouring through the portals and over the top of the stadium and blanketed the field.

Finally, I remember that after EVERY game, regardless of who we had played, we'd yell "Go to Hell Ole Miss, Go to Hell" as we filed down the ramps and out of the stadium.

The other orange throwing game was LSU/Ole Miss in 1970. Archie had broken his arm and played the game for Ole Miss with a cast on his left arm. Casanova returned 2 punts for touchdowns and Craig Burns returned another for a score. It was if all of the oranges in Baton Rouge were in the stadium that night. Final score was 61-17

One of my favorite moments involved the huge fight which occurred between the LSU and Tulane teams at the end of a game.

Two Tulane players were teaming up on an LSU guy and this other LSU player came running full speed, dove through the air about 5 yards and knocked down both Tulane players. Guy looked like Superman flying through the air.

I always get the guy's name wrong when this comes up. But I'm sure someone on here remembers it.
That was 1984 and it was Shawn Burks.

Ha, that coulda been by dad....

I've heard allusions to him being in a fight from my aunts and uncle, but can never get the full story.

I will never forget my first game ever attended at LSU was the ND game in 1972. Theismann was their QB who changed the prunus citation and dropped the last N in his name to ryme with Heisman before that game.

Tommy Casanova intercepted 2, one that stopped a ND TD, and retuned a punt for a TD. To this day, I think he was the very best natural gifted athlete ever at LSU until PP7 came along Tremendous Free Satefy, punt and KO returner and even played some Offense

We win 28-8. The crowd was deliriously loud and intense. At 13 years old, I thought I found heaven. Caught the Tiger fever and became 4ever LSU.

It was Shawn Burks protecting his best friend, Daryl Daye...great fight...Coach Arnsparger was thrilled that we won the game AND the fight! Wally English came strolling into the tunnel where the LSU players assembled after the game to shake Coach Arnspargers hand...surreal moment...

I still have bruises from the oranges thrown at the FSU game in 82.

Was in ROTC and was on the field augmenting the police. Too many oranges to dodge them all and if you haven't been hit by an orange thrown from the student section then shut up....it hurts like hell.

Been on Tiger Droppings for a long time but just like reading the craziness most of the time and stopped posting.
My dad was a big Tulane fan forever until he left us forever. I remember sitting on my Mom and Dad's bed listening to Ole Miss/LSU game on Oct.31st 1959 and remembering my Dad cursing Billy Cannon on the 89 yard punt return. Even at 7 years old I remember thinking "man this is LSU right here in my home town and why is my dad cussing this team".
Since that day I have been a crazy die-hard LSU tiger fan in spite of being brought up with a father who would pull against the LSU girls swimming team. My coffin will be purple and gold just like his was Tulane Kelly green. Geaux Tigers

My uncle (mom's brother) attended LSU in the early sixties and lived in the north stadium dorms. Students could get in the game by showing their Id card at the gate. My father and his brother devised a scheme that allowed them to get into games using my uncle's ID card.

Back then, LSU student ID cards were laminated with a student picture that had a gold background. My dad and his brother went to a local photographer and each had a picture of themselves made with the same gold colored background as the ID card and cut it to the same size as the ID card picture.

My uncle at LSU split the laminate on his ID card so that my dad and his brother's picture would fit over the ID card picture. They would put some scotch tape over the edge to seal the ID card back up.

The uncle attending LSU would enter the stadium and go to his dorm room and would drop his ID card from his room. My other uncle would open the ID card and insert his picture and seal it back with scotch tape. He would enter the stadium, go to my uncle's dorm room and drop the ID card for my father. He would repeat the process and he would get in also.

They did this a few times when they wanted to sit in the student section with my uncle attending LSU or when they allowed other family members to use their season tickets as both my father and his brother had season tickets in the south end zone. Actually, still have the same seats today.

Today is Shawn Burks' birthday. Remembering him as a great Tiger Linebacker. Wish we had a dozen more of those guys who were fighters for LSU.

1977. My Dad , a pilot, had an Cessna that we were washing as we sometimes did, at Ryan Field. We started talking about the game that day. At the last minute we decided to go to the Ole Miss game in Jackson, sans tickets. We hopped in the plane and flew to Jackson, and got there maybe 30 minutes before game time. We parked the plane and caught a ride over to the stadium, but traffic was backed up and we hopped out and walked the last mile or so. We bought some tickets from some guy and We got into the stadium right before kickoff. It was LSU ZERO----Ole Miss 21 at half. Final score LSU 28--Ole Miss 21.
Lsupimp - add to your story - that game was my first in my new GM Motor home (actually it was a 74 model - new to me)great game. My current motor home is a little larger.

As a kid, I remember watching Sammy Martin being interviewed on TV and thinking, "that guy doesn't have any hair."
