Totally disagree. When you're born and raised in Baton Rouge/south Louisiana its LSU all the time. Who doesn't grow up loving LSU? Sometimes people end up going to other schools for a variety of reasons but its hard to imagine all that love just disappears because a guy got a scholarship to Rice or wanted to major in something at FSU that LSU just doesn't offer. Too much Tiger. I applaud that.

I certainly could have gone to LSU for either of my two Biology degrees (University of Mobile and USM), but not for the two in Instructional Design (at USA in Mobile). I attended Bama in the Mass Comm and Film doctoral program but left because they couldn't communicate. At least I have that--most of the Bama fans I know (including my wife) never attended BAMA. I was born in Baton Rouge while my Dad was a student there. We lived in DeRidder for a few years until my Dad got a job in Huntsville. My great uncle played on the 1922 LSU football team, and his sons went to LSU (one is a well-known veterinarian near LeCompt named Blakewood). My family was "LSU or die"--I was "baptized" into LSU as a child. Now I live in Rockledge, Florida, in an area where there are numerous LSU fans (and unfortunately a greater number of local "low-life" as well). My son, who has never attended LSU, is a huge LSU fan--he wears an LSU shirt to Church nearly every week. Also--a parallel question regarding those attending non-LSU schools: If you were born in the USA and lived in Germany, would you pull for Germany or the USA? Geaux Tigers!!!

Reminds me of the Nola dumbasses who forego LSU to go to Bama, Ole Miss, or Moo. I mean if you're gonna leave La that's fine, but it is beyond stupid to go to a state school in the south.

He knows.... A lot of my friends went to other SEC schools but still wear the LSU colors and are die hards. Some people just want a different college experience or want to go for a particular program, especially if your from Baton Rouge and want to get away.

I went to Ole Miss and I'm the biggest LSU fan I know. My family has had the same tickets since the stadium was built.

I grew up in Baton Rouge within a few miles of the stadium and my mom works at LSU. We would've shared the same union.

I made almost all home and away games after the age of 2 or 3 until I was 18. Even at Ole Miss I drove home for 3 or 4 home games and 1 or 2 road games a year. I had a purple tent in the Grove when LSU played Ole Miss.

Best decision I ever made was leaving Baton Rouge for college. You don't go to college for a football program. That's fricking asinine.

ETA:

I chose Ole Miss because it was perfect distance away from Baton Rouge (5 hr drive), I fit in well, the women are ridiculous, history department is solid, and I had so much fun when I visited.

I love Ole Miss and I'm proud to be an Alum from there. But I will never, EVER cheer for Ole Miss over LSU.

18 years of crying and screaming over LSU football with my dad and brother don't disintegrate because I left for college to get away from parents.

Maybe they wanted to leave La but they wanted to experience an SEC school atmosphere similar to that of LSU. It's not that crazy of an idea. I chose LSU and never looked back, but I could understand why someone would want to go somewhere else.

I still think your undergrad school should trump all.

It is not easy to root for a certain school for so long and just flip a switch. I am enrolled in another school because I was stationed near that school while in the military and decided to stay close to my girlfriend when I got out. That does not mean I should just change my allegiance. I will always be an LSU fan.

I have an ex-relative (I don't claim him anymore and not because of ---->) who grew up cheering for LSU but went to school at FU.

By your (awful) logic, no one should ever have a remote interest in college football before 18 years of age. I mean they aren't even in undergrad yet. How do they know who they are supposed to cheer for?

You can tell how mad I make folks with this point, by the awfully twisted contortions they go to make an argument against it.

It's okay, really.

I don't think people are really mad, at least I'm not. People (myself included) pretty strongly disagree with your original point, which was kind of narrow-sighted and dumb TBH.

Another thing, I am very confused by your username. Y.A. Tittle has no Winthrop ties that I know of.

Could it be that you are lowering the status of peoples' fanhood and some may take offense to it?

Are you questioning my fanhood?

You sir, are odd. I went to a different school for a few classes and I didn't give a shite about their athletics nor do I.
