My brother goes to Arkansas but is a huge LSU fan

He would of went to LSU in a heartbeat but decided to stay instate due to out of state tuition

It's not uncommon

I figured it would probably be Bulldog Bash weekend. That will make it a little more fun (weather permitting of course)

IMO, Starkville get too much of a negative rap. No, it's not as good as some of the other SEC destinations, but it's not terrible. There's decent southern food (good BBQ), a good college town atmosphere and plenty of hot college girls to go around. It's not one of those "we have to go every year" spots, but it's worth making the trip every so often.

Does this logic apply to cities also?

Nah, just college, not NFL. If you have a legit connection to your NFL team, you're good for life.

I love how mad people get at my position on this. I'm not correspondingly mad at people who think the opposite of me, I just find them odd. It really pisses folks off here, though.

I went to play football out of HS but after 1 year of that hell I decided I was sick of football, (played from 3rd grade to Freshmen year of college so you could see how it could get old.)

But after that my brother and sister had both gone to state, my girlfriend was at state, and the out of state tuition was just too high for me to leave MS. Also I have a strong dislike for many people who go to Ole Miss and just always told myself I would never go there.

Because not only do they think its cool to be different for going somewhere else, they think its cool to hate LSU and to root against them. I see it most with people from BR that goto Ole miss/Bama.

I actually agree with this, when folks take to the extreme of actually hating who you grew up rooting for.

I still think your undergrad school should trump all.

It's not an inconsistent point.

Fair enough. I understand this sentiment, but lots of times people go to certain colleges out of necessity or academic reasons or other and never feel that kind of endearing, sentimental love for their school like the one I and many do for LSU having grown up in BR and having gone there for undergrad.

I was "the LSU fan" at UM, but I never had to deal with the team coming to town. Chick-fil-A Peach bowl was pretty sweet though.

Can you post some about good bars/restaurants where I could get a drink on gameday? I know it's limited but there's got to be something. I see a Buffalo Wild Wings, a place called Halfway House, Bin 612, Beer Garden. Comments on any of those?

Annnnd he's gone. I'll open that up to everyone then.

$25-30,000 to go to LSU.

While not a culinary mecca; youre underselling the Starkvilee food scene. I always enjoy going to Mugshots, The Grill, and Old Venice when I'm in town.

That's for damn sure. That's why ragging on the Falcons and their fans is so comical to me. There is hardly anyone in Atlanta from Atlanta.

So let's say you are a lifelong LSU fan but you want to major in Criminal Justice. But LSU doesn't have CJ major program. So you are either supposed to quit being an LSU fan if you go to some other school that has CJ as a major or just suck it up and go to LSU even though they don't have your degree discipline?

Absolutely. Schools you attend should be the favorites, imo, and in the order you went to them. I went to UCF for undergrad, and now LSU for grad school. Those are the only two teams I will ever root for.

I can see pulling for the school that you went to in addition to the school that you grew up rooting for but the fact that you went to a different school than who you pulled for your whole childhood doesn't mean you just stop pulling for your favorite team from your childhood.

I have a friend that went to the University of TX on a full ride. UT is a better ranked school and he didn't get as good of a scholarship to LSU. He pulls for the Longhorns but he is still a huge LSU fan because that is who he grew up rooting for.
When UT played LSU in the CWS, he was in Omaha wearing his LSU gear pulling for the Tigers.

That happened to my wife. She had to get an advanced RN-Surgery degree at State to advance at the Tupelo hospital in administration. Just a BA was not enough. Had to go. It paid off, she's now a co-ordinator in Surgery.

Life happens and sometimes you end up going to school somewhere other than LSU. My little sister is the perfect example. I got in-state tuition at LSU but she couldn't (only reason I was able to go). Should she stop planning her weekends around LSU football?

Hell no.

I couldn't afford the out of state tuition, but I route for LSU regardless.
