How much stock do you put into the muffed punt?

At the time, the defense had finally stood up and stopped UGA. We had just gained the momentum and had to opportunity to go up and put the pressure back on UGA. They scored instead.
From then on, we pretty much played catch in a hostile environment and ran out of time.
I know the secondary(mainly safeties) had a lot to do with the scoring roller coaster, but to give the momentum back to the home team in a hostile environment was just too much to overcome for our inexperienced D.
I'm thinking more lineup changes are coming sooner than later. If the vets play like a freshman, might as well play the more talented freshman.

that was where we were about to take over the game.
goes hand in hand with the poor defensive play.

I thought it was a big deal. One of our few defensive stops, and we cough the ball back right away.
OBJ made up for it later in the game, but it was a big deal in terms of the momentum and points swing.

the most pivotal moment of the game.
up to that point, we had zero turnovers and did a great job of protecting the ball.
defense needed a three and out in the worst way, and got it.
and then it happened.
with how the offense was humming, it was probably at least a 10 point swing, IMO.

Put it like this...I don't blame ODB for losing the game...But imagine if he just would have called fair catch(Or secured it).We would have at least got that field goal we needed out of it,I hope.

A major mistake, but just one bad play of many.

Exactly. That was a huge turning point.D had to go right back on the field and that saves a score for UGA...

That changed the game. If we got that punt and score we would have had a two score lead if I remember correctly and we would have been in control. It sucks definitely after all those amazing catches odbjr has made I'm sure he's kicking himself more than us

You could point at several things that made the difference., but it sure felt like the muffed punt was the biggie.

The way he fields punts is the one thing, from him, that drives me crazy. Some times he gets in that mode where he thinks he can return everything and doesn't call fair catches when he should. Or, when the ball is on the ground and he will stand 2 feet from it.

Agreed. We wouldn't have been in the game if it wasn't for him. Oh, and that catch from Landry between three SOB's on a laser pass from Mett.

i like how he shows off that he can catch a kickoff one handed sometimes

Game changing play.
We had time to make up for it, but it changed the rotation of possession completely and turned our advantage into Georgia's.

To answer the OP: It was huge, but I think it is LSU's fault for making him the feature player on offense and special teams since he was a soph. Just seems like they heaped too much pressure too soon and he still hasn't recovered.

I felt terrible for him. The cameras went straight to him after UGA scored following the muffed punt.

I think someone said Yahoo had that catch on the homepage.
The best thing about this game and why I don't feel as upset as normal after a loss is that fact that we can see them again in the SECCG.

I don't buy stock in muffed punts
I buy stock in one handed kickoff catches, it looks cool on TV and that's all that matters

Do you believe in momentum?
Do you believe in field position?
That muff gave both of the above to UGA.

It happens. I hope you aren't talking about replacing OBJ on returns? I am all for benching Loston though
