Seems like a lot of our hidden gems are mexican restaurants.

The cafe in the flea market on Florida is good too. Only open on Friday, sat and sun.
Good soul food lunch spot

If we only do one Mexican restaurant next season, which would be better:
La Reyna, La Morenita, or something else?

And word is Anthony's may not be hidden much longer. I hear they may be building a new location soon.
That's a fact. The plans came across my desk a couple weeks ago.
You too ?

Funny, I've heard Anthony's talking about a food truck once or twice.

Dream Berries on Sherwood. Frozen Yogurt and Vietnese Food. Both great! Very cool looking too. Totally unexpected and enjoyable experience.

I have always thought Anthony's and Pokies are overrated. it is just a freakin sandwich and a real expensive sandwich.
And i remember years ago i started a thread about mexican food places on here and people recommended El Rio Grande..... I went and their fricking salsa was Pace. i was very very disappointed.

Went to Willie's for lunch today based on the thread and some really high marks on Urban Spoon. Had their Saintsation sandwich/poboy (grilled shrimp, fried crawfish, jalapeno mayo, etc.). Not on official bread, so the New Orleans contingent wouldn't let them call it a poboy, but by any name, it was excellent, as were the Toadstools (fresh mushrooms stuffed with cream cheese and fried). Very friendly and prompt service. Definitely on the try again list.

Forgot The Cove Hawaiian Grill on Bluebonnet. Spicy chicken wrap with sambal sauce and a side of bulgogi "fries" which are really homemade chips. It's very different from anything else in town, and it's tucked away in a strip mall behind a drug store. Parking is tight but so worth it.

I'm torn on this place. They try to be "soul food".. but a true soul food joint packs you down with food for very little money.
This place serves fairly small portions (in restaurant terms) for like $12+ a plate.
That said, the food is tasty.

Hands down my favorite lunch place in the city. So good.

By what? La Reyna is small, but by no means gross at all. And the workers aren't gross..

One of the employees children, in diaper only, climbed up in a chair - then onto the tabletop & sat down. Employee did not remove child until she got up and asked them to do so. The poor child was not clean, and my wife did not believe the diaper was, either. She will not go back.
I have heard other people express sanitary concerns as well.
That said, I have been since - and would have no problem going again if someone wanted it.... Those things dont bother me. Alot of restrnts we eat in are not the cleanest establishments.
