It was being discussed before, a butcher shop opening in BR. Next to Walgreen's at Government and Acadian, maybe a dedicated butcher and higher end sandwich shop for lunch. LINK Not sure if it has opened yet, but I like the idea of one in that area.
Yes, my East Tennessee grandparents had it almost daily. I still have it occasionally, but only with white cornbread.

One of the best artists of all time. The manufactured plastic they put out these days couldn't touch him. He was always my favorite.

True story - I (still) have a ticket dated January 1, 1985 to see him at Reunion Arena in Dallas. It started raining and was going to turn into freezing rain, so my mom wouldn't take us. I'll never have the chance to use it now. :wah:

A tangent but if I wanted to get some shrimp right off the boat, where would I go, towns, areas? What days/times is availability the most likely? I'm not from here, live in Zachary, and have zero experience with the coast, but would love to drive down some weekend day and pick up some jumbos. I'd like to cut out the middle man and get them as fresh as I can. TIA

Yes! He was in a couple of episodes of Sherlock, and of course the original Danish version of The Killing - Forbrydelsen. Consistently excellent actor.
It seemed sufficiently vague to me. Those are the kinds of atmospheres portrayed in any good drama in certain episodes. Sorry if I spoilered it for you.

Yeah, I always do that with binge TV. So I had 4.much better than last season IMO so far.

I'm from Knoxville and have been going to the mountains all my life. It certainly has changed a lot. Agree with others' suggestions of staying in Wears Valley or Townsend and driving in, probably just a day Gatlinburg and a day in Pigeon Forge. Start days as early as you can beat the crowds. So many housing choices.

Gburg and PF are good for some cheesy fun. In PF, go kart, maybe outlet stores, eat lunch at The Old Mill. There are usually waits, but they'll text you when your table is ready, so you can explore the shops, look at the river, etc. wait isn't long inside. Also, I would highly recommend the Titanic museum. Although they went over the top on presentation, the artifacts and displays inside are very well done and even rival those of an official Titanic exhibit I saw many years ago in Seattle.

In Gburg, you've got, yes, the Pancake Pantry, which closes at 3:00 p.m. and is so worth getting up early. You can walk more easily here, and there are arcade games under the space needle. You can take the chair lift up (that thing is old), and there's a cool mini golf indoors that's fluorescent paint and lighting. And there's the free moonshine tastings if you can push your way through the crowds. And Carver's Orchard and Apple House Restaurant are highly recommended outside of Gburg toward Cosby.

Spend several days exploring the mountains. And I would also suggest an overnight to Asheville and a visit to Biltmore House - nothing else like it in this country. The Apple House Restaurant is conveniently on the way to a back exit toward Asheville with not having to deal with PF again on 321 through Pittman Center, Cosby, then hit I-40E at Newport.

My 2 cents. I miss home and will talk my head off about it. Y'all have a safe and fun trip.
Oh boy, I wish I could give you more up votes. Dude thinks he's right about everything and gets confrontational with customers, takes it upon himself to terrorize his mostly young female staff. I almost feel sorry for his wife...almost.

I enjoyed Frock Coats and Epaulets - according to Amazon "A highly regarded psychological analysis of Confederate military and political leaders." It was first published in 1963, and is very well written, paced well. Maybe keep in mind for when you want to approach from a different perspective.

I'm jumping in late here, but British TV is almost exclusively what I watch, though more drama than comedy. I definitely second Black Books from about 15 years ago, and of course the classic early 90's Jeeves and Wooster - a Wodehouse turn of phrase never loses the appeal.

As far as casting goes, that's really why I switched to Brit TV. Although I think they only have a pool of actors they rotate through everything, but performances are always top notch. Most of American TV just seems...plastic and photoshopped. The Brits mostly leave them to look like real people.

Anyway, my 2 cents. Enjoy the show.

Whole Foods actually has good pizza too. There's a place up here in Zachary called Chubby's that has great pizza. I miss Oscar's and Chef Bogdan's Dolce Vita truck. :wah:

That's pretty much what I do and add a pat of butter. It's not exactly health food anyway. This woman suggests using a double broiler to cut down on heat.

Yes. I'm not a sweets person, but I CRAVE things like pickles, olives, etc. I used to pour pickle juice into a bowl, freeze it, top with more pickle juice, and eat it like a slushy. I figured since I'm getting older, that might not be so good for the blood pressure.

This red sauce recipe from Lidia Bastianich is my go-to. It calls for fresh tomatoes, but I often use canned San Marzano instead. I also sub oregano for the basil, but that's just a personal preference. You could do half ground turkey thigh/half pork if you wanted to make the meatballs a little lighter, otherwise sounds great.
