With his track record of sending players to the draft during his tenure at Alabama, there seems little doubt about Nick Saban’s ability to produce and prepare players for the NFL. But the trade of [Trent] Richardson certainly boils up some doubts about Crimson Tide running backs of recent vintage. In the past three seasons, Alabama has had two first-rounders (Richardson and former Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram) and a second-round pick (Eddie Lacy). There are legitimate questions about New Orleans’ choice of Ingram, who has only 10 starts in two-plus seasons and has averaged just 3.8 yards, in 2011. Lacy hasn’t gotten off to the fastest start in Green Bay and is dealing with a concussion. And now Richardson has been traded despite having been the third overall pick in 2012… [Glen] Coffee retired after one season in San Francisco….

“One thing we’ve got to remember is that (Saban) always has great offensive lines, and that helps his backs,” said one area scout. “And, truth be told, with the way Nick uses his backs, he probably rubs some tread off the tires. But, hey, no excuses, we’ve got to do a better job of (evaluating) these guys.”

The Truth is simple. $abun pushes those kids to the brink. They don't listen to him he simply benches them or worse discards them.
Its perform or else.

When those guys get in the NFL and are paid professionals they are expected to act like it, which includes self motivation. At the NFL level they lack that motivation because $abun is not there forcing it out of them.

They are kinda reaching. You cant judge lacey after 2 games, richardson is a good player who was traded because his former team is tanking.

Ingram just sucks.

Talk about reaching.... I want to see an article on Wisconsin backs since they always seems to finish with 250+ carries each year in CFB

They don't have a full time steroid dealer in the NFL like they do in Tuscaloosa.

The article does not rag Nick with the exception of mentioning his OL and too much wear and tear on the backs. It really blames the RBs themselves.

I think that another factor is that the Bama OL used to be allowed to hold at will even if they are not so blatant about it these days.

Ya...let's be sure to point out that if he is the featured back at Bama he will be a first round draft pick, second round at worst!

I don't disagree with the article but how many championship rings does Lacy, Ingram, and Richadson have between them?

Looks like Lacy has been doin pretty decent. We have Ridley but besides him..where are all the former LSU backs that played under Miles? Just think about that for a sec. Personally, I think that Michael Ford still has something to prove and can be a decent backup. And I'd be drinking way too much Kool-Aid to think that Trent still isn't a bad arse. I will say this though..if J.Hill will have the best NFL career of any of them
