For two years, since they were selected 11th and 24th in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, combo-platter defensive ends J.J. Watt of Houston and Cameron Jordan of New Orleans had a large gulf between them. Watt was the record-breaker, the pass-deflector and sack machine, the 2012 Defensive Player of the Year. Jordan was a nice defensive end, but miscast in the Saints’ futile 4-3 scheme.
At 6-foot-4 and 287 pounds, Jordan needed to be a Watt, a 3-4 end who moved inside and played some 3-technique depending on the down and distance. That’s how Watt got his 20.5 sacks and 16 passes deflected in 2012. It was one of the best seasons a defensive lineman ever had.
Someone saw. Someone knew the impact Jordan could make playing as a 3-4 end on running downs and playing inside against the pass. Veteran defensive coach Rob Ryan knew, and when Sean Payton replaced defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo—a 4-3 guy—with malleable 3-4 maven Ryan after the disastrous Saints defensive season in 2012, Ryan pushed Jordan to his more natural spot. And Ryan essentially told him to go get the quarterback and forget everything else on passing downs. It was perfect for Jordan. Watch him play, and you see a Tazmanian Devil, a powerful and slippery twister-and-turner with 17 quarterback disruptions (sacks, pressures and knockdowns) through three games. Watt has 14.

Between him, Kenny V, and Rob "fat fabio" Ryan this team is gonna become a defensive powerhouse. Now let's just hope our offense starts rolling

Might wanna tone that back a touch
Especially if you are talking this year only
The future looks bright however

Finally got a good one on the line. I am amazed at the pressure we are putting on qbs this year!

Ah, so it was Ryan's decision to move him there.
Not Coach Payton, who studied all last season while being suspended, looked at all the players on defense, realized that a move to 3-4 was best for the personnel he had (like Jordan, Galette, Wilson, Hicks, etc), fired Spags......... and hired Ryan.

Some people are never happy...

I feel like Cam Jordan and our defense is our own little secret but the world will learn next Monday.

That last line in the article kinda irked me..
No, Peter, we've actually been a 12-13 win team the last few years. When you have a corrupt commissioner that punishes your team for virtually no hard evidence and takes your coach away, you're going to struggle a little bit that year. But we're back now.
But if he actually paid attention to football he would have known this.

Damn why are you so angry this early in the morning. I think he was clearly referring to us having a terrible defense the past couple years and how good we are doing now.

Ha. Not angry. Ok, maybe a little bit.
I'm tired of the media being so "shocked" that the Saints could possibly be 3-0. We have a very good team, led by a HOF QB and coach. I'm just tired of the media treating us like we were a 4-12 type of team the last few years and then all of a sudden we are possible contenders.
I'm not really ranting on PK so much as national media as a whole.

I think he is referring to our Defense not being dogshit for once more so than our record. We've won 13 games twice in our history and haven't won 12 since 1992.

I really haven't seen anyone shocked that the Saints are 3-0. I've seen plenty shocked because our defense is playing so well, but that's to be expected considering last year.

We already have a "Tez" though...

I've been saying for awhile, I think Jordan becomes the face of this defense going forward. Dude has just been an absolute animal

Hasn't Vaccaro already been dubbed the Tasmanian Devil?

You're tired of something that hasn't happened.
